[2025] Europa-Park General Discussion

I’m really unsure how the roof on the arena is going to turn out. The interior supports look like they may get in the way of the views.

I anticipate that the main driver for this is to be able to operate the area as a show space year-round now there is no closed season between Halloween and winter. I did enjoy the games in Winter Wunderwelt though

I'll reserve judgement until it's finished and I've seen it, but I am not convinced about this. Having it so it can be open when the weather permits makes sense, but it really does look like it has just been slapped on and the blue does not fit in all that well.

Surprised at a blue tin roof on what I presume is a pretty well themed building

Yep, the rest of the roof consists of traditional aged Spanish terracotta tiles.

It currently looks so incongruous that you’d imagine there’s something else to do to make it fit in better. I struggle to think what that might be though. Even the choice of colour doesn’t fit - you’d think something in the red/yellow colour palate would at least be slightly more in keeping

I’m guessing they’ve gone for blue to look like the sky, but the metal roof part looks very odd. I guess there could be cladding or something to be added to it yet.

Likely a long way off but there are plans to introduce direct train services to other parts of Europe, including Germany and Switzerland so would bode well for the challenging journey to both EP and Phantasialand:

Ultimately unless they get ICE running closer as Roland wants trains will always be a bit of a faff as the main annoyance is changing onto the local trains rather than the change in Paris from Eurostar to the high speed network.

Plus this isn’t suggesting a connection to Strasbourg so there wouldn’t be a simpler route for EP (Cologne would be just as faffy as it currently is).

It would be helpful if they ran those ICE routes more than once a day.

Was looking into it as an option as was doable in a day from Leeds with only 2 changes. But just as expensive as would be to fly.

There’s something inherently less stressful about travelling by train so if the door to door journey time became almost equivalent it would certainly be my preference.

The majority of a flight and airport experience is being dehumanised or waiting around.

Train is my preferred method of travel for anywhere in central Europe. I am more than happy to pay more and take longer but not have to go near an airport (love planes, love flying, loath airports).
I've trained it to EP several times. Most people, however, only look at the "flight time" vs "train time", and call me mad. They never seem to take the multiple hours of airport faff in to account.

As a family we've only travelled from London City Airport so far, it's the last remaining one where you can arrive less than an hour before your flight so works out great for Efteling but alas not so good for Europa. The thought of having to use Stansted is a major factor in being unable to visit so far unfortunately, a horrendous airport experience.

If the train time from London could get it down to sub 6 hours that would be great.

I like airport faff.

Especially nowadays since we get to use the disabled queues at them. It's like a Merlin park with a good RAP system ;)

Stansted wasn't too bad last time I used it. But lot of the time it's based upon when you fly (I.e. holiday peak season) rather than anything else.

I've never had major issues outside of arriving during COVID with Stansted. Usually fly crack of dawn so in when security opens, through and into the bar.
