[🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion

Here is the pokemon news.
Naming your child Pikachu has just been banned in Japan.
I’m just hoping that law isn’t going to affect anyone anyway.

I think I’d appreciate an update to their list of protected characteristics before that.. but I suppose more pressing matters are present.

So a few weeks ago, I heard that the final house between Annex and 4 Eastwood Cottages, would be empty likely by end of next week but by the end of June. This is the group of houses before the current entrance into the concrete area:

Looks like preparation has started to fence these properties off as concrete blocks have appeared to the rear of numbers 2-4.

I could see a demolition application going on shortly for those. They can be cracking on with that while we wait on the main application. We know nothing will happen on the fields until after harvest time

I’m confused did Universal buy all those houses in question on the picture? So everyone who lived in those houses accepted the offer just left?

They bought:

Annex, the first building that was built by the father of the family who lived in no 1, for ÂŁ333,500.
No 3, sold for ÂŁ333,500
No 2, sold for ÂŁ339,750

No 1 is still going through but they are due to move out.

I'd heard 5 was empty, but there was no sign of anything linked to Universal even yesterday and I'd be told that it they were wanting an offer but nothing had happened, today:

Also today, they appear to have started drilling on the concrete, I didn't want to go too close with the drone

Finally, there are several roadworks listed for boreholes over the next week, the first one didn't happen on Broadmead so I assume will be relisted but it appears they're looking at the area near Vine Cottages which appear ready for demolition,

Happens all the time. If you've been offered 2x your actual home's value why would you turn it down?

Its a no brainer, be offered way over the value of your home and you also swerve being part of a huge building site for the next five years..

Surly it can be long until we see the full planning app being submitted

I’d at least do the beer mat maths of releasing equity from the house and turning it into a really brilliant and surely in-demand AirBnB.

Ramp up to what? There is no planning permission so construction can’t start yet.

There's more to be done before construction starts, demolition of the Manor Road houses, sorting the slab for the construction village and then land clearing for the Core Zone.

I didn't mean ramping up to construction but the ramping up for general activity instead of it being a lifeless area with only a few cars and people pottering about.

I wonder if they will build the railway up first not only to hold passengers like construction workers but also freight to help supply Universal all its supplies trains carry more than lorries do in bulk orders

Its not common for private construction sites to use rail freight.

Also what do you mean by "build the railway up"? I think there is plans for new and improved stations but those won't be needed for several years. Construction workers if coming by train will manage fine with the current station buildings.

It’s almost like the businesses employing the. contractors doing the surveying and working on site ahead of the applicant submitting a planning application are following the law by providing on site comfort facilities for their worker’s convenience. I’m not sure how many times this needs to be said. Outside of surveying and putting some very temporary storage sheds and comfort facilities on site for people working a certain amount of hours, they cannot do a damn thing until they’ve submitted a planning application - SDO or not.

Where I said build the railway up I meant station and yards to allow more passengers and freight to access I believe it's only a small station at the moment

I don't know whether this is a shot at me. But when I meant 'ramp up' I was using the context of it going from absolutely nothing happening outside of the occasional delivery to activity on a day to day basis. The borehole drillers (and the accompanying welfare unit) is definitely activity being ramped up. I never once said construction was about to occur, and am well aware that until the SDO is submitted and approved large-scale activity is unlikely.

Not a shot at you. More a shot at the constant non-updates by bloggers and vloggers filming every little movement on site and hyping up construction progress with hyperbolic click bait titles.
