Paultons Park: General Discussion

Yeah, the area by the Flume with the temporary kids rides, playgrounds and Wave Swinger that's not covered by Valgard and the area where the sea themed rides are such as Pirate Ship, Viking Boats and Kontiki

Critter Creek I'd say is another area they could look at as well.

Europa Park is in Germany not in the UK different culture. And mentality is different to lapbars. Lapbars are relatively new thing in the UK the first time go upside down with Lap Bar was Icon since then Hyperia, Wave, Sik.

All have lapbars. And Lap Bars aren't always the best on Sik the final 5 inversions are painful on Sik.

Paultons Park has gone for a safe option something tries tested reliable and shown to work at other parks to get a start in the thrill market

I think this hits the point perfectly with what Paultons are trying to achieve. Lapbars may come eventually on their next ride but at the moment, it's simply meant to be what Mandrill Mayhem is to Chessington.

There's also plenty of other family thrill rides they may go for in the future that doesn't go more extreme than Drakon too.

Sure they clearly have a good relationship with Gerstlaurer, and I am sure they did consider other manufacturers, but I am still not convinced that this is the best choice of coaster.

Also not buying the OTSRs thing. If you do surveys etc. then parents are always going to say that they feel safer for their kids if there are OTSRs. But the reality of it? Doesn't seem to be a problem at Europa-Park where they is not a single OTSR in sight!

I think he said Gerst are still backed up with orders, just not as backed up. Which I think I could see when you look at what is currently being built world wide.

As for the OTSR I get it, totally. There is no doubt however, that parents think differently over here in the UK than other parts of Europe, for whatever reason that is. But I think the justification also, was because Paultons is primarily a kids themepark, making a coaster which is quite a step up for kids to appear to be as least intimidating as possible, was a major factor for the OTSR decision.

I still feel they could have got away with lapbars though.

Annabelle associates OTSR with older, more dated rides. I think most of us on here do as well. We avoided taking Annabelle on certain OTSR rides because of how much their heads get banged about, Rita for example.

It’s a shame, kids will have gone on Storm Chaser with a lap bar, so going on a bigger coaster with a lap bar would not be an issue.

Not really, my parents were happy with me being launched onto the sky on Thunderlooper with a ratchet bar resting on my thigh in the early 90s.

I understand the decision, I'd rather they went the other way with it but I don't find the restraints stop me enjoying Rage or Saw, so I'm sure it'll be fine.

We've had lap bar loopers in the UK since the 1980s (the Schwarzkopf Looping Star and Silver Arrow), but they were all positive-Gs. I do think it makes a difference that Euro Fighters typically go from 90- to 95-degrees in a short space of time. It all goes back to whether a Euro Fighter is quite an extreme ride for Paultons in the first place (I think "yes"). They could probably have had a coaster with lap bars and barrel rolls just fine, but I think it's that unique motion of the Euro Fighter that makes the difference (and makes more people want OTSRs).
 
And Eurofighters are not bad at all. I don't know why people keep saying they are Saw has an excellent layout and is pretty forceful, Speed No Limits was Awesome and Fluch Von Novgorod are good ones.

And although haven't done either of these heard good things from Takabisha and TMNT Shellraiser

They’re saying it because you come off Saw with sore red ears and a headache due to the over shoulder restraints — I’d be somewhat excited for this if it had lap bars but as it is my interest in going to Paultons has dropped back to 0 again, but I’m not the target audience
