[🌎 Universal GB] General Discussion

A lovely new mock up of the rumoured BTTF coaster. Still hard to believe Universal will be wading in and potentially taking both the UK height and speed records:

The roller coaster seen in this animation is considered a concept, but it is built to scale as much as possible using the park's official concept art, Google Maps, and public site plans. The height of the tower is approximately 95 meters at its highest (310 feet), assuming the ride goes 88mph (based on the movie and the required speed for time travel), which has the DeLorean ride vehicle reaching a height of approximately 285 feet up the tower. While the overhead layout is expected to be quite accurate, banking and other small changes in height, size, and shaping of all the elements are likely.

I would do anything, and I mean literally anything, for this to become a reality

This looks like an amazing coaster, however I wished it had a Top Hat instead of a Spike, Top Hat visually look better than a spike and will feel more complete maybe if you want a spiker have it inrertwined with a Top Hat similar to what Mr Freeze Reverse Blast does at Six Flags St Louis

“This Council Resolves:
1. To declare the 9th April “Universal Day" within Bedford Borough ensuring that it is added to the Council's Civic Calendar.”

I knew we were pretty desperate to get Universal over here, but I didn’t know we were this desperate.

I get going around 6th forms, colleges and whatever else to probably try and get jobs, but the “schools” part does raises some questions. I take it they’re probably just going to do some demonstrations and talks about designing stuff and physics or whatever, but it’s weird to see it promised in however important a document this is.

Also - why April 9th?

Schools would surely be important as that’s when teens need to start thinking about what subjects they’ll be taking at college for A Levels or whatever else.

If they want to go into engineering with the chance of working at Universal they’ll need to know what STEM subjects to take in order to get on to university courses which require specific subjects.

It’s probably going to be more like a ‘there’s this job available, this is what they do, to get to this here’s the education paths/courses available that you should think about choosing’.

Looking at the concept art, I thought it would be too short.

I mean - it’s still short but I don’t mind it anymore.

Looks fast
Isn't that the whole reason behind this swing launch fad in the first place? To get away with building less track?

I'm reminded of something I once heard from a production manager* at a conference:
"Our job is to make sure two plus two equals three..... But looks like five."

* In fairness, you could apply this budgetary philosophy to almost anything, of course. But hopefully not anything safety related. ;)

Disney about to lose more talent then.

They get to actually see their ideas come to life at Universal rather than be mothballed by Disney Execs. A sinking ship.

If you think Disney is a sinking ship then you have never seen ships sink.

When Universal opened in Florida originally everyone said the same thing and quite the opposite happened.

Disney Imagineers have always developed around 20 concepts for every one put into production (universal probably do as well to be fair). Universal also copy over more attractions than Disney do, and the mouse tends to depend less on screen based attractions.

There are rumours starting to bubble up that Disney are looking at a 5th park in Florida and they have recently pretty much doubled the size of studios so o don’t think their imagineers are lost for work.

DW have had their worst gate figures for June in 15 years apparently (2 Pandemic years being an exception)

Seen so many posts about how empty it is relatively speaking given all the kids are off.

They won't fully sink but it's a company only heading one way at the moment. They need a massive rethink on their pricing strategy. Their core customers are starting to stay away.
