The first one at beginning of July was a lot quieter last year. But the advertising for them is too late and not enough. On another note they advertised at the season launch that every Saturday on August was a late night riding or twilight thrills but seem to have not realised there are 5 Saturdays in August this year. The last Saturday in August is advertised at s a 6.30 close but this is Illuminations Switch on weekend normally the busiest late night riding of the year but seems to have been overlooked with the bank holiday falling early. Would be a guaranteed money maker if they were open late on that weekend at least the Saturday. They would also get more people going if they actually made sure their website was up to date as it’s still not been updated since last year with the only firework night advertised on the main late night page being being the 24th August which is a Sunday this year. They may have made new pages but this page comes top in google searches, has lots of links on the website including the openings page and find out more links and the page that had been used for years which many people will look at to see when late nights are. The average person won’t see Facebook updates or spend ages looking for info on a website. To go overlooked when they rely on these days so much is beyond poor from whoever updates the website. Although the social media team have been excellent this year with certain things in general advertising for the this things that matter is lacking or poor all round for everything. You only have to look at the Hot ice show hardly any advertising anywhere this year- and normally it’s all over. A decent marketing strategy regardless of bugdet and they would do so much better. Look at flamingo land, lucky if 20 rides open at minute, tickets 46-58 in advance, poor ops, poor capacity, bad reviews and rides average at best and yet because they advertise properly they get people in and make money. Social media is a small part or advertising, important but small that’s what’s letting them down and until they have a shake up ( a bigger one ) with how that market the park it doesn’t matter how many rides there are, how many new rides open or what price is it won’t make a difference.Worrying to see the late night riding days aren't as busy this year as previous years have been. First of these in a long time where Big One's queue extension wasn't needed at all.
On another note, a change was made to the operation of the ride turnstiles a few weeks back. Staff can no longer manually release. Fine in theory, but if somebody scans their ticket too quickly before the person in front goes through, it won't release again, so there's no option but to go under or over it. The rate at which this is happening would suggest to me the process needs more thought, or at least program the system to detect whether the turnstile has actually rotated or not..
This was causing a lot of grief for the staff today

Opening night of Hot Ice XS tomorrow people...I have attended a couple (freebies, they like a full house for the first night).
If you have never seen it, it is worth the effort.
Not sure if the matinee ticket still gives you a couple of hours free access to the park after, it used to.

Is Hot Ice actually a really great show I have never seen it before
It is.
Very professional, lots of very fancy jumps, skaters jumping out from all corners, stunning costumes, and good sound and light effects.
Worth doing once in the short season, the afternoon show is an hour or so, much easier on the back with the small seats.
Drawbacks...cramped seating, often sadly only a small audience, tends to get a bit whiffy, very old plumbing.
Because madam pushes them to do the top ice jumps, there are a few fallers.
Worth opening a minor betting book with your mates for how many.
Usually get a couple, rarely seen a perfect performance.
Worth doing once.

Yeah its worth seeing, saw both half's last year by visiting the park on different days and doing the matinee both times.
Will be on park on Saturday so might give it a watch if I have the time. Always frustrating that the day off for the skaters is Sunday though.
They really need to promote that free matinee more. Great opportunity to sell ice creams and drinks of coke.

In a rare positive move for the park, they are now offering a combi ticket with Sandcastle Waterpark for £50!
This saves £10 from the online prices for the two attractions.

Could it be having a refresh then returning next year? Depends if it was worn out. The sea air really doesn't do rides much good does it

Just been on Valhalla as its absolutely perfect weather for it. In the 20 odd years of riding it I've never gotten that wet. The final drop and splash was something else. Felt like there were people just there tipping buckets of water over me. Had to go back to my hotel and change all my clothes.
Rode Grand National on a middle seat and it was surprisingly smooth, nothing painful at all. Loads of fun!

YesThere was a theory they needed to remove the red arrows theme wasn’t there?
It's very much still there at present!
Not sure the technical term for these green structures, but new this week:

Also, a tipper truck was taking away rubble from the Bowl-a-drome site earlier, looks like they've been doing it all week

That is the beginnings of a modern pergola my friend.
Probably followed by bits of wire and wisteria.
Very mandy that.
You forgot the fairy lights and the green wall with the logo cut out of acrylic on it.

It looks like that's going to be around for at least the next few years. The next coaster doesn't seem likely much before 2030 if its going in that spot. Unless its going over the top of it.

To be fair, with them building a giant gyroswing (which I absolutely do think is the right move for the park), I think tidying up and beautifying the park, expanding the hotel offerings and improving the current ride lineup is actually the right move.
I don’t think they need a new coaster for good 4-5 years yet.
Looks like it will be a lovely place to enjoy a picnic when its finished. Oh, wait...

Really pleasant day on park Friday. National was on 1 train per station, and I think Dipper was on 1 train, but apart from those operations were on (Icon on 3 trains!
The new garden area does look rather pleasant, and I hope the elements can be retained if / when a new coaster is added. I hope they keep Avalanche as they could defintiely still fit a compact family thrill coaster under and around it if they make full use of the space left by the cars and truck rides
W&G appears to have a lot of new posters in the queue focussed on Feathers McGraw, however I may be misremembering
