Come on @AT86, you can't be coming on here and posting actual evidence of paying customers taking over the park. Especially not after you also accurately highlighted that the hotels were at capacity last night too. That's not how this works.

Bank holidays are quiet. No one visits Alton Towers anymore anyway. Merlin is doomed. That's how this works.

I went to Thorpe Park this time last year (Bank Holiday Sunday), it was almost as busy. This theory of blackout days being quiet can I think be entirely dismissed in August.

Aye but I'm sure we all wouldn't mind them queues going on a bank holiday weekend.
Im on park tomorrow so will see what its like.
 
It makes me laugh when I see people describe huge queues and very busy days as ‘bad’, isn’t it in fact the complete opposite and very good? (Under the two caveats that long queues are only good if ops are great, and that you’re not attending that day!)
 
I went yesterday with my son.

Had a great day, operations were decent throughout the day overall and it was fairly busy.

Managed the following;

Thirteen x1
Rita x1
Hex x1
Oblivion x1
Skyride x5
TCAAM x 5
Nemesis x1
Galactica x1
Congo RR x2
Wickerman x1
Spinball Whizzer SRQ x 1
Nemesis Subterra x1

A very decent count considering how busy the park was.

Most rides were up all day, Nemesis went down and did not come back up for the final few hours.
Thirteen and Rita were ridden just after 10am, and we queued for maybe 10 minutes for each.

The person checking harnesses on the exit side of Thirteen was very slow, even to the apparent annoyance of other platform staff. The ride was stacking with 2 trains on the break run at times he was so slow, maybe he sped up later in the day.

Also, does anyone know the reason they decide to remove shuttle from Oblivion an hour and a half before ride close? For the queue that built up as a result, was it really worth it that late in the day? It was running dual station all day, no idea if removing it was going down to a single station. Which if it was, would use less staff, but I do not think it did. Possibly a safety / mechanical issue, that would make perfect sense.

The park was not quiet by any stretch of the imagination. But the high ride count is a mixture of knowing the park well, great availability and slick operations. Well done Alton Towers!

For all the negativity around Alton Towers at the moment, I actually think the ride throughputs are generally excellent. They certainly were on my recent trip, anyway; most rides were firing on all cylinders operationally!

When combined with the fact that ride availability has hugely improved this year, I think it’s made for a much more positive experience on park!
 
The park were smashing the operations yesterday. Alton Towers is absolutely on the up from my previous visit. They have clearly gone into this weekend, which so far, has been VERY busy, well prepared. Credit where credit is due, seriously!

I left yesterday a VERY satisfied paying customer and we will be back before the year is out. They may even get a hotel booking from me this time too!

I do love the park being busy as it has such a great atmosphere when it is busy, it is just a shame your ride count *usually* suffers as a result.
Yesterday however, we got the best of both worlds, a 7PM ride close combined with excellent operations and availability meant the park could be enjoyed when it was teaming with atmosphere without sacrificing a decent ride count.

We kept using the fast track / RAP entrance for TCAAM because the queue was so short / non existent there was no one checking the merge point, as it would be totally pointless to do so. Quite handy because you can jump back on the ride within moments of getting off.

I do love seeing the park that busy, with the rides running like slick, well oiled machines. That is a spectacle in itself.

One problem with Towers I find there just isn't enough rides at the park wish it got back up to 50+ Rides gives you more experience and more satisfied

We did not no. I was not too fussed (even though I have not rode it yet) my son was dead against it (he is only 11). He also would not do The Smiler due to him perceiving it as scary due to having 14 inversions. I tried to reason with him that his maths were not mathing after having done Oblivion, one of the scariest rides on park for new riders and his favourite ride being Nemesis. He was however having non of it.

I did consider queuing for it myself, but this was a day for him, so getting him on as many rides, to experience the magic of Alton Towers was the number one priority, rather than him waiting around for his dad to ride rides without him.

No Gangsta Granny either think it's an okay dark ride got some nice feature quite a lot of theming inside with not much dark space
