Paultons Park: General Discussion

The safe money is on some sort of flume ride. It just gets a bit buried in this discussion, as speculation of something less obvious is more interesting.
Definitely agree, it's got to be a flume style ride.

Whether that's a more traditional flume, one with different elements like Viking Voyage at Emerald Park, a shoot the chute, water coaster, supersplash or rocking boat - I'm thinking it's going to be something that will cause a splash/wave.

Something that will ease pressure on Splash Lagoon where less older ones/adults will ride and focus on the bigger flume instead (which is a good thing for the target audience for Splash Lagoon).

I’m not convinced they’ll be building two flume rides in the space of 3 years personally.
I think it's more likely to be a water coaster personally. I do agree that a splash battle would fit the target audience nicely, though, although I'd be surprised if that's what they went for.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a traditional flume but more elaborate like a water coaster of some form 🤔

It's a huge space and at the same time, Mack haven't done traditional log flumes in a very long time.

Then again during the early 2000s Thorpe installed three major coasters (Colossus, Nemesis Inferno and Sealth) all in a short space of time so perhaps it's not exactly a far fetched idea.

Maybe a less troublesome and maybe greatly tones down Valhalla attraction would be good to kill two birds with one stone being not only that water ride but also a other dark ride for the park. Unlikely admittingly though certainly would be a step up for them.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but on Splash Lagoon is it a slight design flaw that boats going round can be soaked by ones coming down the drop? We visited today and the missus and the boy had this happen to them (easily the wettest they have got on that ride), and for some reason it seemed that it was happened quite a lot while we were watching (probably around 75% of the time). I'm sure raging river ride had covers so this didn't happen.

Went to Paultons today and as ever had a lovely time.

Now I might be adding 2+2 and getting 5 but I noticed from above the new ride site seems to have a trough like track laid out, combined with my recollection of Paultons saying they were hoping to have an exclusive before another European park and then finally seeing this post which also correlates with suggestions that Mack are involved:

The main flaw in my logic is what i saw likely might just be the old Go Kart track filled in, the secondary flaw is they definitely won't have it before this park.... and i absolutely don't think they're getting this ride anyway, so i think i've firmly debunked my own nonsense but you never know.

Other than this, didn't get much of a chance to look at Drakon but the station building is prominent.

Also did Ghostly Manor for the first time and i thought it was excellent. Really liked the mix of screens and set pieces. My only gripe is any of these rides that doesn't have a visual target like on Universals Minion Blaster seems a bit poor to me.

Park was really quiet, longest we queued was 10 minutes but most things were walk on.

Ohh, this is a good shout admittedly

I remember Drakon being mentioned as the park's tallest coaster yet, could the park be getting something taller for their water ride/coaster for 2027? It's unlikely but worth a shout?

This could fit into the SuperSplash theory I have as well as the water coaster one that's ongoing.

Sorry to double post but it could be a new generation flume ride from Mack to rival Intamin which could explain the European first? Just thinking out loud.

They got rid of the old log flume (a relic from the early 1990s) so it's logical the 2027 project will be the replacement (when the much newer dinosaur log flume, while well appointed, is quite dinky actually).
Like for like ride replacements aren't common.

Alton Towers' Log Flume was replaced by Wicker Man and Thorpe Park's Loggers Leap was replaced by Hyperia. Neither park currently has a log flume.

Wild Mouse at Blackpool was replaced with a set of fountains, and doesn't have a wild mouse. Temple of Mayhem at Chessington World of Adventures is being replaced by an indoor dark coaster.

The 2027 project at Paulton's is replacing both a go-kart track and a drop tower, but that doesn't mean that they're about to get immediate replacements for those attractions either.

They can't build much taller than Drakon, Drakon will be 23 meters and Paultons have said that they can build to a maximum height of 25 meters. The launched Mack water coaster certainly seems like a strong contender in my opinion, if it is indeed going to be a coaster.

Pedantic correction.
The dead rodent at the Beach was replaced with "The Hub"...a bar and events area used on about twenty days a year.
No fountains I am aware of.

In actual fact, fountains were removed.
Additional pedantry, Temple of Mayhem is being replaced by an as of yet unknown flat ride. The indoor coaster is going where the shop/hospitality tent stood.
General point still standing that neither of these are type for type replacements.

Paw Patrol will arguably be a like for like replacement of Scorpion Express though!

I think the circumstances for a park to do like for like replacements must be very rare. They’d either retheme or retrack if the ride was deemed worthy of retaining beyond existing maintenance.

Most attractions tend to last many many decades, by the time they reach the end of their lifespan technology, tastes and economics will have changed.

Danse Macabre at Efteling is a good example, it retains the essence of its predecessor but is a completely new ride that will hopefully last many decades. Bringing it back to Paultons, log flumes have become an outdated ride type in the UK for a variety of reasons so a new one seems unlikely.

When replacing rides it really needs to be a similar thrill level to what it is replacing. Either on the same site or elsewhere.
