Merlin Entertainments: General Discussion

Can you publish the full list of perks please so I don't have to click on an X link?

The link has been taken down now so might have been an error.

I’ve somehow embedded it in your post too, whoops.

Anyway “4 free fast track one shots per month” is the main point of interest.

I was at Gardaland recently and their annual pass had the usual Merlin pass type perks; entry, free parking, bring a friend, etc but also has some new perks including international access (excluding UK)

Their top tier pass also includes 15 free fastrack per visit, but each ride is in a different tier and you pick so many rides from each tier, and those rides stay the same for the whole year of your pass, all linked to your pass via the Gardaland app.

You know one thing I have never understood is why doesn't the Merlin Pass apply to all properties across the world it would add more value to the pass and bring more customers to those other place like Gardaland, Heide Park, other Legoland Park and so much more

I don't think this has been mentioned on here before. Merlin opened a Sealife theme park in Germany close to Movie Park. It wasn't successful and closed in 2015, after just 3 years (That's not the bit that hasn't been mentioned on here before. Bear with me). The park's being re-opened next year by the Karls Erlebnis Dorf chain. Their parks are fairly small, but they look pretty well put together with some nice theming.

Is there any explanation as to what the free Coke Freestyle cup + refills means? Is it a return to season long unlimited refills cups or just the same couple of refill vouchers you got previously?

Does anyone know if there are usually any Black Friday deals on any of the Merlin Annual Passes? Kids are asking for them for Christmas so just checking if historically there are ever any deals? Thanks.

There's usually a Black Friday deal every year. It's worth keeping in mind that they've recently refreshed their pass offerings, so it's possible that there might not be one this year. The deal typically goes live around now, but Black Friday itself isn't until 28th November this year.

January has also historically seen Merlin Annual Pass deals too.

A few pages back there was a brief discussion about growing controversy around the penguins at the London Sealife Centre. Apparently over 70 MPs have now signed a letter calling for them to be moved:

I don't know enough about penguins and their welfare to have a strong opinion on it (although I do respect Chris Packham who's one of the campaigners protesting against it), and I don't honestly know whether or not it is suitable conditions for keeping penguins, or whether there is much meaningful research or conservation work that Merlin are doing with them. I think the public's perception of Merlin's animal welfare has been fairly good so far. They were ahead of the curve with things like removing touch pools from their aquariums and they got a lot of positive publicity around the beluga whale sanctuary. They did also replace the clear water for the sea lions at Chessington with salt water, despite some guests complaining that they couldn't see the animals as well through the salt water.

It's a difficult situation for Merlin with arguments both ways, but if this starts to dent their previously strong reputation for animal welfare, then over time this could gradually start to cause them problems. I don't think this is a major reputational issue yet, but it has the potential to become one.

In my admittedly limited experience, if you house a number of penguins in a basement off the Holloway Road, the Met will close you down as soon as someone reports the smell of rotten fish. I don’t see why they should be given any special dispensation over in County Hall.

Can't smell anything due to the odour of the Thames and the bull emanating from certain buildings on the opposite side of said river.

Yes I used to buy my annual pass in November when they had the sale, I can't remember exactly when it starts though it probably is around Black Friday in late November.
