The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

I will say the one thing with that area of the park it is the closest to the village so having buildings really is needed to prevent noise
You could have a major ride similar to the proposed Project Horizon there, which would negate that particular issue. If they put indoor attractions there, there won’t be as much noise as if they put a huge coaster there.

In a (my) perfect world, what I'd like to see is:
  • Merlin begin crisis talks with the publisher about dropping the name/closing the IP rides, getting out of the contract early (if still in contract of course)
  • Internal planning and development talks start/resurrected about Project Horizon (with possible expansion to include TWODW if that wasn't already planned)
  • [Emergency] funds given to start and develop PH (if funds haven't already been allocated of course)
  • By opening day 2026, the carousel and the mini drop tower thing moved to Fountain Square and rethemed as required. Hoarding put up blocking off sight and access to TWODW at its entrance and on the side of Cuckoo Cars that face it
  • Development of PH starts next year
  • Opens in 2027 or 2028.
They're doing whole lands at Chessington with Paw Patrol and Minecraft both with multiple rides and attractions over the next couple of years, so its not impossible to think they couldn't do the same with this area and develop more attractions in the area other than just PH.

No flying theatre? Next!

Move the carousel to ATH or fountain square and move the driving school to CBeebies.

SBNO Gangsta Granny and partition the whole thing off at burger kitchen.

Come up with a proper long term plan including project horizon. Demolish the Nick Outta Control and consider expanding back to the MMM studios.

Look at a major original Victorian IP based around sir Algenon to fill the spaces

- Dungeons
- GG
- Project Horizon
- 4D Cinema
- New F&B and retail building

Given the huge level of investment needed, the extra expenditure for an IP seems excessive.

Whatever they do it needs something to be a real draw to that area of the park once and for all.

Driving School could go Alton Towers Hotel as well as it did for the elves playground

Not sure if it’s always been the case because I’ve never looked before, but all rides in TWoDW are now referenced to be located in “The Towers” on the AT website, just like Hex.
I'm gonna side with you on this one. On my last visit it was still very much TWoDW on the app and the site, circa October.

Can someone check the app swiftly?

Still shows TWoDW on the app.

I still think adding a mini Legoland here would be a great idea. If they want to get serious about competing with Universal, and seeing as they already have the rights, I think Merlin putting in a Lego Harry Potter land would be a slam dunk.

Where is monkey swinger, did it go into storage? Short term they could just remove all the Walliams branding, close Gansta Granny until the ride system can be reworked into something else, and put monkey swinger there to replace the lost twirling toadstool?

It wouldn’t be too difficult to move the Carousel to Fountain Square, and the Frog Hopper across to the space opposite Burger Kitchen. Close the entire back of the area including Dungeons and have access to the Cars next to Hex. Gangsta Granny could be rethemed in the long term but it isn’t worth keeping open should the drama continue

Am I correct in saying there was a Carousel in Fountain Square at one point Blue Carousel I think it was

You've got to think staffing this area seems pointless, it barely has any rides or anything worth visiting. Agree with other posters, move the Carousel and Driving school and just close the area off, its embarrassing as it is

I’ve always thought the area was ripe for a nice Victorian style covering, and go in the steampunk direction. That being said, if they were to commit to removing everything they could build a huge show building for a proper fantasy themed Dark Ride, that could exist alongside Horizon and whatever they do with The Dungeons

If people want them to demolished basically the whole area it’d be nice if Towers just invested in one absolutely huge building that could be full of children’s attractions/entertainment.

Something that could be used over the winter through all weathers, easy enough to get through planning due to its proximity to the village and Horizon being accepted.

Something similar to the Kung Fu Panda land of awesomeness space at Universal Bejing

Beaten to it 😂

There is so much potential in that area to weather-proof the park and make it its own half-day area. There’s already two indoor ride systems that work well as supporting attractions.

If they close The Towers/Dungeons as scare attractions, then there might be space for another pop-up building behind Hex’s Vault and have that as a Scare Attraction space that’s out of sight to most customers. I think the CCL corner of the park honestly has the most growth potential in general, especially if they leaned into the indoor attractions.

You don't even need to have a full building it could be a canopy over the street area. Lots you could do with the space it's a question if Merlin wants to and has the cash to invest in what would be a whole new area. It's desperately needed though
