Paultons Park: General Discussion

Think Kraken would work, though obviously there's quite a famous coaster with that name in Orlando.

Was thinking with the removal of the old drop tower with this expansion as the park already has 2 towers for smaller guests if they'd consider going all out and buying a funtime drop tower similar to the one at Nigloland. Imagine Paultons being able to market having the tallest ride in the country.

I'd love to see a more thrilling drop tower at Paulton's, that is actually the question I've got in mind for the Super Fans Q&A.

Kraken is one of those ride names that is common enough to be able to get away with it

Well Paultons clearly don't care about using names of other rides, Storm Chaser has been used quite a few timer at various parks around the world. But I suspect they won't use the same name as a clapped out old ride at Drayton, just in case people confuse the two in anyway, or think it'll be similar. There are plenty of possible names that would give it an entirely separate identity, even if there isn't a suitable traditional Nordic one available that suits.

If they where going to go down that route then Kraki is more old Norse. Or they could go with Horven which was another name for the kraken.

This would be very good, since drop towers do not take up much of a footprint. The throughput could be a problem, though.

I know it might've went for other reasons i.e. Aesthetic etc. but they could've kept Magma about

Although a more thrilling drop tower than Magma is definitely welcome, if Venom can be a hit at WMSP, I'm sure something similar would be a smash hit

Because they competently manage park capacity and ride availability, hence the previous drop tower had no meaningful issues with long queues compared to iterations at say Chessington.

Are they managing it or is the park just not yet at the point where it attracts concentrated crowds?

I get why people grab onto Paultons because it’s the rare beast of a UK park that cares about the product but people talk about it like it’s a major UK national park when it is still ultimately a small regional affair.

It’s why I suspect despite what people say, Paultons isn’t trying to go after Merlin.
If they are then they are currently making huge strategic errors on ride capacity, and they don’t seem the type of company to make those types of errors.

There's a ride called Jörmungandr at Drayton Manor already so I doubt they'll call it that in order to not cause any controversy.

They could prevent confusion by calling the upcoming Mack water ride "The Rise of Jörmungandr" or "Escape From Jömungandr" or "Realm of Jömungandr", etc, either way a mystical sea monster theme seems inevitable by this point (to complement the big dragon and variety of dinosaurs; both avian and non-avian, what with Raven, LOL).

Queue times across all the Merlin parks have been absolutely diabolical today (as expected) yet Paultons have remained comparatively and consistently low with highs of 20 minutes.

I can’t imagine that’s reflective of a lack of attendance?

If you're conflating the length of queue times in a park to its attendance, then yes it is reflective of a lack of attendance.

I'm sure Paultons Park will be busy as far as Paultons Park is concerned, but it doesn't attract the same level of attendance as each of the Merlin parks.
