Where Are They Now?

That might be true. After all, Space Invader had a crash at one point, and it was the same ride type. But I would hope that any examples still running would have been retrofitted by now?

Is this Space Invader at Blackpool Pleasure Beach?

Space Invader is now Astro Storm at Brean. I believe the accident it had was somebody undoing their seatbelt, standing up and nearly being beheaded.

Thunder Looper is now at Hopi Hari in Brazil, but before it came to Towers, it spent it's first 7 years of its life at King's Dominion as King Kobra

And then it moved north to Jolly Roger in Maryland and spent two years there before heading to Staffordshire

Ironically, it was apparently removed from Jolly Roger because of noise complaints!

Still think this would be a popular ride at Alton if it was still there today. Would have been nice to have kept one of the Thunder Looper, Black Hole or Corkscrew

that sat where the bade is, I wonder if it would be possible to install a newer magnetic version.

that just gave me an idea of the station under the Rcade and then launching into the loop and spike (where the blade currently is) would be pretty cool to see, but it would probably be more expensive to run than the blade

I thought it had ended up in the USA now? I love Gravitrons, I don't know the location of any in the UK now, not seen one for years.
Still in the UK... it ended up at Barry Island in Wales (which was its original home when brand new in the 80s, with myself at the controls)

Since this reappeared in my notifications, I have just done Alton Mouse now at Idlewild 2 days ago, which has just returned after a refurbishment. The ride now has mag trims instead of just the original friction ones and has had a full repaint and repair. Idlewild seem to be keeping it well.

I'm not sure if this is the correct thread to post this in, but does anybody know why AT removed Gravitron in 1992, given that it wasn't replaced with Oblivion until 1998 ?

Why didn't AT just keep Gravitron in place for a few more years, until they needed the space?

(Then again, perhaps you could say the same about Submission, etc)

Gravitron surely can't have been broken, as it is still operating today at Barry Island?

Think this was just part of Tussaud’s plan to phase out the fairground-esque attractions and move towards more permanent themed ones.

I've heard that, but given that the permanent replacement didn't arrive until many years later, I'm surprised that they got rid of it so soon

Then again, AT have a history of removing rides and then not replacing them for a long time afterwards (Submission, Black Hole, Ripsaw, Flavio, etc) - although all of those examples were slight exceptions, as some of the replacements came later than anticipated due to subsequent financial cutbacks, the Black Hole was probably removed prematurely due to safety concerns, and Flavio was probably only ever intended to be temporary during COVID
