Thorpe Park 2017: DBGT: Rise of The Demon

I wonder how different this will be to a Simworx Immersive Tunnel (the middle variant of which also has 60 seats). It could easily simulate being stuck in a vintage train carriage, with the platform movement representing swinging from the chains etc.

Other thoughts are on throughput - 13 minute cycles will surely create huge queues if there is only one or if the whole 13 minutes is spent on ride (it probably isn't I'd guess).

I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is the most intrigued I have been for a new attraction in a long long time! There just seems to be so many layers of depth to it, with so much going on. Even now after the announcement I am sure there is probably much more that we don't know about.

In terms of the name, I wasn't so sure at first however now I really like it. It perfectly sums up exactly what the ride is set to be.

One other thing, people have moaned from the start about the 'run down/derelict theme' but in this case I feel it fits quite nicely. Plus as seen in the video, it doesn't really look run down in all honesty. I would actually say it looks rather grand, certainly looks a rather impressive building!

Cant say I'm too excited about this right now (though I'm sure this will change when I get to watch the later). I'm sure ill like the name more once I see the finished ride.

I take it that the 13 minutes will be spent in a hex style walkthrough or N:ST lift thing. Not that the "train" will be 13 minutes.

I like the name, but wish they had gone with a traditional dark ride train or similar (more like Duel/hanuted house) but with updated effects and projection tunnels/domes (like Harry Potter and Forbiddon Journey). Compared to proper immersive projection, VR headsets feels the cheap way out in the short term, except for the fact the headsets will need more regular replacement.

I am less excited after the announcement, I wanted a dark ride, not a walk-through interactive experiance.

There is also a reason Disney don't use many of this style of attraction, throughput.

Hmmmmm! I am most certainly intrigued so that has to be a good thing. It looks very different, I assume it is a more literal ghost train rather than a stereotypical theme park ghost train.
Something tells me we are going to get the Vive, the controller and it down to the user experience to tab in and out of real view and VR view meaning you can have some interesting elements like having a real world view and a VR view.

However not very much is known about the Vive still as it was pushed back to a April 2016 release window for public release so no one is really sure how this front camera works.

Also in the facts on the website it lists the train being suspended 3 metres above ground (9.5 feet) and it lists the train as having 60 seats, seems a bit odd to me to list a theming item in the facts list... Better still list the theming item as a train and then say it has 60 seats when you meant the actual train... Just seems, odd!

That's very interesting, I think you could be on to something there. It does sound like the type of thing that could help create an experience whereby your mind cannot work out what is real and what is not.

Also, this promotional image seems to imply some sort of explosion on a train:

I do hope the ride is not going to involve someone blowing up the train in an attack, that is a bit risky from a PR point of view in today's world. I suppose some sort of derailment is more likely.

As for the name, it's nothing special but at least it makes it clear what the ride is (to a degree). Not really got many complaints with it.

:)

That won't happen.

Going back to what someone said in the market research "poor taste" I am guessing explosion or derailment.

Surely not explosion. It's based off Victorian Times remember. Not saying that explosions didn't exist then but the main theme of the marketing seemed to be these dolls. Derailment seems obvious, remember this is Thorpe, where there are only two areas not themed around destruction. I reckon these dolls will do something to the train. Then again, none of this could happen and that might be just a way to see inside the train. He's (Brown) messing with our mind, which is what he set out to do. This might turn out to be great despite the name.

Yeah that is what it reminded me of, someone who had been shown stuff for part of market research a while back did say that it could be seen as poor taste or somewhat offensive.

Saying that, after The Smiler, Merlin won't be allowing any risk of bad press so hopefully these concerns are unfounded.

:)

Maybe just some kind of light source like an orb appearing inside or just outside the train? Or even just for the pics.

One thing I'm not sure of, do the riders go on this train that is suspended?

Yeah, a light source provided by something supernatural... GHOST train? It's all falling together nicely. And yes, they do go on the bridge.

I thought the suspended train was a theming element in the station?
That *is* the 'Ghost Train' by the looks of things.

Remember this is being billed as a 13 minute long experience. Not all of it will be a 'ride' in the normal sense it seems.

Is it just me, but do others feel that by having a VR ride, it means they can scrimp on actually putting any effort into the ride, such as the experience, the themeing etc. To be honest, they could sit you in a chair in the middle of a bland room and make you feel like your on a rollercoaster or other ride.

Personally, give me a "real" ride any day over a simulated one.
