Fear of Drop Towers

I barely consider Atmosfear a drop tower. It's more of an open air observation tower with an unusually rapid descent.

The average S&S tower is much more thrilling and the Fabbri model blows it out of the water in terms of how effective the drop is.

I do like drop towers. As a coaster enthusiast, once you've ridden a good number of coasters, rides that once seemed extremely thrilling can become quite mundane. Once you stop fearing them, there's no denying that some of the thrill is gone.

Drop towers on the other hand don't seem to lose their edge as much. They can still be intimidating to seasoned riders and you can reliably get that uneasy 'stomach drop' feeling which in the coaster world, I find only the steepest of Intamin first drops can provide.

Did Atmosfear once, felt slightly uneasy on the ascent, reached the top and the fear went into a bit of a 'oh' and the drop didn't affect me. rode it 2 more times with no second thoughts. then a few days after I rode fritt fall and eclipse and the fear of any ride went, which is actually disappointing in a way. :( no other ride gives you the same feeling unless its a dive machine any other drop in between 80-90 degrees

Must admit, when/if I return to Movie Park I'd like to do the High Fall with very loose restraints

I've been on a couple of shot towers, but not yet drop towers. i had hoped to ride one whilst on holiday a few weeks ago, but unfortunately it was closed :(. i hope to eventually conquer Apocalypse at DM, but would like to try a shorter one first.

They make my legs feel funny if its a standing one like Apocalypse, but if it's a sit down one, it doesn't really bother me.

Falcon's Fury. ....i thought it would scare me so much! But we rerode it a ridiculous amount of times and I loved it!

In search of some opinions please :) If you absolutely hate drop towers and they make you throw up would Oblivion be a bad idea?

The reason drop towers are horrible is because you are sitting upright while falling. On oblivion you face the floor, so you don't get that lurch in the gut feeling. (The G force is front to back, not bottom to top, if that makes sense?)
It's still terrifying the first few times though. that's part of the fun.

Oblivion doesn't really feel like a drop tower at all, so you should be fine. I don't like drop towers too much either, but I really enjoy Oblivion! It's definitely scary your first time, but it's worth it. :)

Like many on here, I really hate the sensation on a drop tower. I just don't find them pleasant.

The only drop rides I do like are Mystery Castle and Tower of Terror. They feel completely different, and are worth doing for anyone with a fear of drop towers. I was nervous before doing both, and I ended up loving both (apart from when Mystery Castle becomes Misery Castle).

which of Oblivion rows is worse for g force, front or back?

There's no real difference. Front gives a great view (As with most rides, closing your eyes only makes things worse. Trust me, enjoy the view, it's epic.) If you're really nervous try and get the back row as it feels more enclosed, but that's purely in your head.
I'd say the best seat is the front right edge.

i might try Oblivion next time i go to AT. thanks for the info regarding the difference between Oblivion and drop towers; haven't been on either, yet.
