Theme Park Worldwide

@Mr Pearse nail on the head with last couple of posts.

It that’s “show must gone on” attitude which is causing anger. Of course apparently the authorities are involved in some way or other but if that situation you’d take time out.

TPW are very lucky it’s a limited attendance for the parks as I could imagine on a normal day they’d get heckled for certain.

Its only going to get worse the longer this goes on unfortunately. We all panic in certain situations that’s normal but the whole carry on like normal while the ship is sinking approach is doing more harm then good. I’m trying to figure out what’s got to happen for them to sit up and realise that everything they built over 8 years will disappear by the end of the year. Some stuff should that’s not part of the police investigation should be clarified far as I’m concerned. Yes the Facebook messages could well be faked but the fact no one has addressed this straight away is alarming. Why would you let people keep Sharing a quite serious message if you know it’s fake. The more stuff that comes out be it real or fake it’s quite shocking and needs to be addressed ASAP.

People should stop giving so much fame and power to these vloggers, who are basically just huge theme park cliques at this point. And hopefully people will wake up to the reality that many "well known" fans are unfortunately complete weirdos who use theme parks for their own gain. Regardless of whether this particuar person has done something horrible, we know there is a bigger problem.

In my opinion theme parks should always be about just having fun with friends & family, and not be turned into some sort of clique scene anyway. Just the same, nobody should be afraid to be a theme park fan or get involved with people who have bad intentions.

But that's my point - from our perspective, it looks like they aren't prepared to address anything and brush it under the carpet. But if their legal advice has been "do not respond to anything under any circumstances" then they'd be a fool to go against that!

Then the best solution is to just step away and not carry on as normal. That’s what is annoying people most, the legal advice could of said it’s fine to carry on as normal but that don’t mean you should. I can’t work out why it’s so hard to just bite the bullet and just take a step back for a few weeks till it calms down.

Just had a read through all the Twitter posts with the allegations. Seems they all revolve around the same people over and over. Screenshots we need to be wary of with the likes of Photoshop etc these days but there does seem to be a trend in names coming up over and over again.

I’m surprised TPW still going ahead with a visit to Towers this weekend.

I’m even more surprised that at the moment Towers / Merlin will be allowing them to visit. You would imagine a little bit of advice of keeping a low profile while things settle either way is the best way forward.

I was thinking about that. Surely Towers will have seen everything (especially if they were tagged in) and would be wary of it potentially putting the park in a bad light.

... allegations...

So I find out where you work, I tell your employer you have been sexually harassing me but unfortunately I've deleted all the evidence.

They sack you because, you know, it's just not right to continue to use someone in those circumstances, just in case.

But you actually did nothing wrong.

How are you feeling about that?

I mean usually businesses tend to put anyone under investigation (internal or worse) onto gardening leave until a decision one way or another has been made. To flat out sack someone based on allegations can come back as unfair dismissal after all.

Besides, my work info is out there on the internet. It's not exactly difficult to find. And a massive difference between baseless allegations and those which have some basis or no hard evidence. Though if more people come forward as a result of someone speaking out then hard evidence may be found.

And of course I also said "if". As in IF Shawn was aware of any wrong-doing and continued to use that person in videos (which is where this has seemingly appeared from) then that in itself is problematic.

The point comes from as Shawn is the face of the channel, anything done under its name comes under his jurisdiction. If he's using someone who's already had some allegations and is aware of it then he deserves whatever happens to YouTubers who get cancelled.

Imagine a) making a 'parody' theme park account for attention and then b) make fun out of a situation like this just for likes and retweets.

Social Media is a complete and utter cesspit. Glad I'm spending more time on here and less time on Twitter lately.
Proud to say I've never had Twitter or Facebook accounts, for reasons like that. I just don't trust them, they can be a minefield these days.

This current sub-topic is very heavy going for me, so I'm going to post in here once and once only.

Before I get started, the brave woman who came out about her experience has stated she has spoken to the police, it is all on record and she feels safe enough to go back to theme parks. She will also not be discussing it any further as she has said all she needs to.

I'm very glad this is now the case and I wish her all the best.

So now, here's my weigh in. I fully support and believe every woman who has shared their experiences in the theme park community. Every single situation I've read has deeply resonated with me because, guess what, I've had many very similar experiences since I joined the theme park community at age 16.

I'm not going to go into each time it's happened to me and who it was. But what I will include is a previous acquaintanceship with an ex-TPWW member that did indeed involve harassment, verbal abuse and suicide threats. It didn't just happen with me, it happened to a lot of vulnerable girls and young women who were unfortunately put in that position. The number is shocking, quite frankly. And the same has certainly gone for other TPWW members who've shown similar abusive behaviour..

I don't have the evidence, physical or digital, to show what happened to me in that particular situation. I'm not sure how I would've thought to do that at the time when I was scared and intimidated. And I'm not sure who at the time would've believed me if I had spoken up. Because, more than likely, I would've gotten one of these responses:

"Oh he's just being friendly" - "He's just having a laugh" - "Don't take it seriously" - "I've never had a problem with him, he's always seemed nice to me" - "You're overthinking it" - "Did you do anything to provoke him?" - "The way you dress and present yourself doesn't help" - "You're an attractive woman, take a compliment" and so on.

The only evidence I know I can give for all the horrible experiences I've had, on top of a recap, is the trauma of it all. The anxieties, the depression, the gaslighting behaviour, the fears you will get harassed and stalked whenever you leave home, the threats to your safety, the possibility you'll lose friends and so much more I know other women have been subjected to. So much gets undermined about your personality and your mental and emotional states in the process.

And those quotes that normalise such behaviour don't help. It makes it a lot harder to admit to yourself that you're in an abusive and toxic situation with another person, when you've been in so deep. You just think everything was your fault. They make you believe you're accountable and responsible for every single thing they did and said. And it's harder to get out of that situation when you have all of the above resting on your shoulders. Because you don't know how to escape, who will believe you, who you can trust anymore and whether the police will listen, should they need to be involved.

Yes, it is easy to manufacture incidents and doctor evidence. Yes, sometimes accusations turn out to be false.

But it's not easy to come out about such experiences and horrifying situations. Recalling your memories and every detail you can is painful. It's triggering. As can seeing that person who warped you and abused you for so long. Why anyone would want to relive or falsify that for revenge or popularity jealousy is beyond me.

It truly takes a lot of courage to come out about sexual harassment and abuse to anyone. And it's amazing to see that just this one spark has given so many the mettle to finally speak up.

All I ask, for those of you doubting the claims, to take what I've said into consideration.

If you would like to talk further, please privately message me as I won't be responding in the topic. Please stay safe and take care.

Just had a read through some of the allegations.

Doesn't read well I'm afraid if true, for any of them. If I was anything to do with that channel there's no way I would have the front to show my face and do vlogs a few days after all these allegations start coming out in the public. However, if it's a choice between fronting it out and still having a pretty cool job that involves travelling, being adored and not much manual work, or applying for 'normal' jobs in Uttoxeter then some people might just try and keep the show on the road at all costs.

Have there been new allegations come out since the other day, or are they still the same ones?

Also, is there anywhere I can read the accounts? I know that the moderators would prefer we didn’t discuss in detail in this thread, so I would like to be able to see the accounts as if I saw them, I feel as though I would be more at liberty to discuss the topic and make a judgement.

@Rowe, I admire your bravery in discussing this, and I’m so sorry that you had to go through that type of experience on multiple occasions (or at least, multiple experiences were implied by your post). I completely support you and all the other people who have bravely spoken out about their experiences, and I apologise profusely if I haven’t made that clear enough. My posts are not trying to brush off the accusers and what they’re saying by any means; I am a huge fan of Shawn’s channel, but I don’t see any reason why those who have spoken out would have any reason to lie about this sort of thing. I’m just trying to remain as impartial as I can regarding this situation, because I am aware that it’s a very sensitive topic for many, and I completely support the people who have spoken out about their experiences, but as many have said, a key staple of the British legal system is “innocent until proven guilty”, and I’m also trying to adapt that mindset as much as I can.

@Rowe a very well thought out post there. I'm sorry to hear about the issues you had, but huge respect from me for speaking out.

To an extent this links in with the discussion that was had in the thread in Guest Services, but I will reiterate in here too. If anyone has any concerns, then both @Sazzle and I are more than happy to hear from you. We will (and indeed have before) investigate and take action where necessary on issues that are reported to us.
