Planning my first ever trip, looking for an offpark hotel

A little bit late but having just stayed at the chained oak I can't recommend it enough. You are really well looked after yet still left to your own devices. The best part was how quiet and peaceful it was. Made for a nice contrast compared to how manic the hotels can be.

    February Half Term 2014

Been on park today (Friday), it has been quite busy and a lot busier than we expected. Due to the reduced ride offering of the event parts of the area felt like a busy summer day. I've never seen such large queues for marauders and heave-ho. Nemesis struggled given the one car nature. It...

    2014: General Discussion

The farm animals moving out is a disappointment, most of them (with the exception of the guinea pigs who looked cramped) seemed to like the new surroundings at the hotel. Its a shame that another non ride attraction is being removed because visiting the animals was a nice way to break up the...

    2014: General Discussion

Is anyone else disappointed that there was no butchering of the human language to suggest that this was a good thing? I was disappointed that there wasn't an announcement that after taking customer feedback they are adding magic to the day by staggering ride openings so that there was always...

    Merlinpool

Couldn't find a general topic for the Merlin Midways in Blackpool so thought I'd start one, please merge if there is already a topic. Visited Merlinpool recently and there were some changes since the last time I was there. The Dungeons had their Christmas Ghost show on. For the most part this...

    CBeebies Land

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land Slightly Ironic when they are advertising Get Set Go as being "a great place for families to begin their day at CBeebies Land". Good news that Bish Bash is staying though.

    Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

It's a very good point. In the old days a visit to the pleasure beach was a whole family affair with parents and grandparents coming along. They wouldn't go on many rides but would likely buy something or visit the amusment arcade. Nowadays the non-riders will either stay at home or take in...

    CBeebies Land

Re: 2014: CBeebies Land My slight apprehension to the project is how will the non-ride experiences be run? I have mixed feelings concerning whether it would be best for them to be "free for alls" or "queued for". Making people queue takes a little of the magic away and could pose a problem...

    2014: General Discussion

I wonder if the Woodland Walk will still be open from 8.30am as that allowed you to enter the park from FV and then work your way to the front of the park for just before 10am.

NEW: Alton Towers Waterpark Spa Treatment Room

Given the number of mums/grans (and dads/grandads) that seem to spend their time in the waterpark "minding chairs" this is a really good idea to make the waterpark a more inclusive affair. Only downside is I that following a massage I can't think of a less relaxing place to go than the waterpark.

    Splash Landings repaints

Just got back from a festive break and I have mixed feelings towards the changes. The Flambo's changes are not that drastic. Effectively you now have a L -shape from the kitchen similar to Pizza - Pasta (with a little bit more room to allow for a chef to do the carvery). We went at approx 9pm...

Secrets, 'Easter Eggs' and other Towers oddities.

I'm sure it was mentioned on the Smiler thread but this year I though how the sign to the X-Sector being updated to "the Ministry of Joy welcomes you to the X-Sector" was a subtle but good way to try to tie all the rides together.

    The Smiler - General Discussion

Slightly off topic but sadly the claims management companies are already ahead of you - http://www.claims4negligence.co.uk/personal-injury/rollercoaster-whiplash/ Back on topic, seem to recall that during the season there was a bit of work to the vertical hill lift. Does anyone know if such...

Funny things you've overheard people say in queuelines

A halloween one seeing its day 1 of scarefest. Last year at the Zombie scarezone we overheard a girl in her 20's telling her 3 friends that if they are scared there is a safe "word" of "I don't like it go away". Don't think it worked because if anything they seemed to get more attention...

    Cigarettes sold in Towers Trading

I'm a non-smoker but I think Alton Towers gets the mix just about right. The cigarettes sold are ridiculously expensive (and you don't get MAP discount from what I hear). Compare and contrast to Legoland which (although it is a kids park) put smokers in a "pen" which may as well have barb wire...

TS Merlinpool Meet: 21-22 September 2013

Never been on a meet before but tempted by this one as BPP is our most local park (since Camelot closed) and the Blackpool Merlin Midways are actually worth re-visits. Is there any problem with not staying over as given we are approx 45 mins away it'd prob be cheaper for us to drive/train it on...

    ERT Change

First time on park yesterday following the ERT changes and it was quite good. Used Woodland Walk to enter, so we were near Nemesis bang on 9am. Got 2 rides on Nemesis then worked back to the front of the park taking in a ride each on Blade, Duel and Mine Train. Got to Mutiny Bay by 9.45am. We...
