Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!
That's true, there are some excellent bars. I think we tried most of them but ended up heading to the open air balcony at the castle most nights at opening time. The famous Europa Park theming is as evident in the hotels as it is in the park, but I loved the fact that some nights at Porta the...- Mark-Cal

Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!
I honestly can't put my finger on it. I've stayed in both, for a week in an on site hotel and both were my first visits but for some reason I'd had enough of EuropaPark before the week was out, but I could have stayed at Porta longer ! I think one of the plus points for Porta is the quickpass...- Mark-Cal

Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!
We hired from Hertz on the Swiss side of the airport last week and told them we would be mainly driving in Germany and it didn't appear to be a problem. We also ended up deep in France after heading back from Holiday Park (you're truly lost when you end up in the wrong country!!). Had a great...- Mark-Cal

Trip Planning: Information, advice and questions!
Funnily enough, that's exactly what I'm doing tomorrow. Flying into Basel, hiring a car and spending the week at Collosseo hotel, Europa. We intend to do Holidaypark and Tripsdrill as day visits. That's no help to you at all, I just thought I'd mention it !- Mark-Cal

PortAventura: General Discussion
Just got back from a week at Portaventura with my grown up kids and had an excellent time, I'm not gonna write a trip report because I'm sure you all know more than me about the place but I thought I'd share a few thoughts of a first time visitor : .Buy the Express Wristbands !!! If bought at...- Mark-Cal

Do you think they will get rid of nemesis and air in the next 2 years?
The more tatty and unloved Nemesis looks the more I like it ! Most other coasters couldn't get away with looking so uncared for but Nemesis wears its rust and grease like a badge of honour. Step away from the monster with those paint brushes !- Mark-Cal

2014: General Discussion
It seemed to be some sort of Scottish schools day today, lots of coach parties from north of the border in the park this morning. Busy but enjoyable with a 6 30 ride close.- Mark-Cal

I'm So Nervous...
You really have to go on Oblivion, it's still the biggest single thrill on offer on any coaster in the UK ! It sounds like a really crappy ride when you describe it, a lift hill followed by a single descent followed by a banked corner in to the brake run, but in reality it's fantastic ! It...- Mark-Cal

The Smiler - General Discussion
I have to agree, it rather spoils the escapism of a theme park if you're tripping over security guards all the time. In seven visits this year already it's the first time I've even noticed them, and believe me the guy who came to sort out the bother on The Smiler wasn't the sort of person you...- Mark-Cal

The Smiler - General Discussion
There seemed to be the usual reliability issues on Tuesday, leading to some far longer than necessary queues at certain points in the day, not helped by having to shunt one of the trains onto the outside siding at one point where it sat for the rest of the day. There was a funny incident in the...- Mark-Cal

Quick Questions
Can the Woodland walk entrance be used by MAP day visitors for ERT ? And if so is it a better way to get in rather than walking to the entrance from the car park ? Oooh and how do I find it ? :/ Cheers Mark- Mark-Cal

Drop Towers
I say get rid of all drop towers, I don't care if they ruin the ambience of a park or not, I'm just very very scared of them !- Mark-Cal

The I Feel Down Topic.
It doesn't get any easier as you get older either Laura ! I'm happily divorced and not even looking to date at the moment but actually looked at joining Plenty of Fish a few weeks ago for a laugh but I realised when it asked me for my interests I wanted to put Caving, Lego and Roller Coasters...- Mark-Cal

Chessington World of Adventures Resort
I had my first visit to Chessington yesterday and viewing it through the eyes of a complete noob to the place had some mixed thoughts on the place. Overall I thought there's some decent theming to be found in some areas but other parts look like they could do with a bit of TLC but I guess that...- Mark-Cal

"I've never been on..."
At least Alton doesn't have any embarrassing Go-Gator type credits that need to be done for the coaster count. :-[ I must admit though I seem to ignore the flat rides at the Towers, I'd rather just spend my time in a coaster queue, so I reckon there must be a good few rides past and present...- Mark-Cal
