2016: The Smiler Reopening
I've just found this message (which I've copied and pasted below) in my junk FB message box. It was sent on the 1st September 2016.

I needn't say that I just deleted the message without responding and I would have done the same if I had read it on the day that it was sent.
And if Hazel from Sky News is reading this thread, my harness failed to release on the day in question, cars and lorries on the road break down every day, so what is the big deal!
Rant Over!
Hi Roy, Hazel here from Sky News. I don't know if you have seen, but the Smiler at Alton Towers has got stuck - again. Please can I speak to you briefly about the incident on the 28th? Many thanks, Hazel Baker Digital Editor, Sky News [email protected]

Please be my guest, I didn't just forget to edit out her email in my above post
Good luck! I think there will be more chance that a TV news station mistaking a mock up air plane crash on a film set for the real thing live on TV, than reducing these reporting on every Smiler story.

I personally think the best way is to just ignore the message. I've have dealings with the press years ago when I used to do a lot of TV work. The Sun reported my first divorce back in 1994 (print date Wednesday February 2nd 1994) made page 3 news. They can twist the words that you say and also put words into your mouth. Just don't go there and something that Vicky Balch should take note!!!!

No, I'm just pretty good at searching for old documents and things. Plus I still have access to a couple of databases I used through Uni

Did you find a copy on line? Please PM me the link. I didn't really say all those horrible things about the ex, that's newspapers putting words into your mouth for their story
I'm sure that I've briefly mentioned my history on the forum here somewhere. I now found the link https://towersstreet.com/talk/threads/john-wardley-vs-derren-brown.4094
I was in the entertainment business for over 30 years. I also appeared in Lovejoy, The Chief and a many other TV dramas as a TV extra. I also made a brief appearance in the pop video Trouble by Foget me knots (2.18 mins in, white suit)
Just before my divorce, I was appearing weekly on "Live TV" (a channel only found on satellite TV in the early days of Sky) and I also was appearing in other TV shows as a magician.
I've now retired to look after my wife.

The database I first found it on only gives the headlines on the page and a brief description of each story. However, if you look at the second photo in this old Ebay listing, you can see half of the story, just about:

Edit - Caution: Half naked page 3 girl also visible in the above listing.

I appeared in a few local rags with store openings etc (one stitched me up by printing a questionable article based on lies made by local snobs) and met Chris Acabusi and Linford Christie in Bush Gardens (on the priate ship giggling like girls believe it or not) but that's about as exiting as my miserable existence has ever got. I'm in awe my friend.

Don't we all?I hope the smiler stays out of the media for the rest of the year.

Fat Chance....
...I got a strange feeling that there could be a lot of media coverage next Monday (26th September)

I disagree. They'll be loads of archive footage and library pictures, perhaps a photo outside court of the victims. But ultimately, it's pretty ancient history post closed season.Fat Chance....

I see where you are coming from, but isn't this exactly what the media has been doing for the last 12 months?
Personally I can see the outcome making the Evening news on Monday and also spilling over into breakfast news on Tuesday with Vicky doing further TV and newspaper interviews over the next few weeks with regards to her reactions to the outcome
I think the fact that the media contacted me (and I'm a nobody) about my evacuation on the 27th last month (and even they couldn't get the date right) goes to show that the media are actively still looking for a story. So it goes to show that it only takes one person to post a photo/video or even mention the Smiler breaking down, the media is ready to pounce on a non story
We have only got about a Month left of the Smiler running before the end of the season (taking in considerations the midweek closures), so hopefully not too much for the media to report until the next season.

Also please don't forget the Media Coverage of Alton Towers thread for discussion about just that!
Thanks.
