2017/18: SW8 Speculation

We had a really decent Log flume, IMO one of the best in the world....

...until Imperial Leather Sponsored it! All it needed was some TLC!

I love water rides and I'm happy to ride them any time of the year in any weather providing I wear my waterproofs :)

As much as I love my rollercoasters, I just hope that Alton don't replace every ride with a rollercoaster. Any good theme park should have a good selection of rides. The more variety and choice the better. Something for everyone.

lol i was only joking about cannons in the queue line hence the big grin!:D...I dont mind getting a little bit wet on the flume or rapids even at scarefest during the night, as you never get too soaked and soon dry off which is half the fun!.On the other hand if u got proper drenched like on valhalla or those water slide type rides some parks have then i would agree.

Quite funny when you see a family of 5 with matching poncho's getting on the rapids or flume on a overcast day like the water is laced with acid lol:p

i 100% agree- i was persuaded to go on Battle Galleons once, and absolutely hated it! i got completely soaked:(. i think i took my rucksack on as well- bad mistake:oops:.

continuing about taking bags on rides, i went to Blackpool PB last week and had to take my rucksack on Valhalla (again, i wasn't allowed to leave it on the platform, even though it's a very wet ride). i held it between my legs, high out of the water, but i noticed it on the floor when we exited the boat- i think it fell from between my legs after one of the big drops. it got very wet:(. they really ought to have a baggage store before the station, or a baggage rack on the platform. i couldn't leave it with anyone, as iwas with just one other person, and we both went on the ride.

As above :D.

Battle galleons is only for sunny days but tbh i dont bother with it anyway as the cannons dont work that good and ends up boring.The flume cannons were the best at firing water but now they gone.Used to spend a good 2 quid on them on a busy day soaking flumers as they passed by,quite a fun time.:p
I was thinking that if the ride plans goes around a new food outlet you could have the worlds first "ride through" restaurant where u have to catch your order as u ride past the serving window lol just a thought!

I think if it's a family one and does really well... Maybe this would instil the faith for a bigger one?

Lol This is wishful thinking, for some folks getting everything they asked for isn't enough.
 
SMDC have approved the screening opinion request so no EIA is required... will we now see a planning app or will this all be covered by permitted development.. (it is possible that we wont see anything else until this starts to be built, as far as I can tell from the plans all buildings and tracks heights are within PD guidelines, however the theming is just outside of the guidelines in terms of height so something may be submitted. )

Everything that they plan to build does seem to be covered by permitted development rights. However they may require planning permission to remove the Flume. Pretty sure one of the documents they submitted as a part of this screening opinion said that a full planning application would be submitted.

SW8 proposals do not require an Envirnomental Impact Assessment.

One of my informant has informed me that SW8 will be a woodie.

What the ground breaking element will be I don't know. The site appears quiet small to fit a decent woodie on though.

In the news today it the Magnetic Hyperloop pod that levitates above the tracks using magnets. This reduces friction. Image what if this was applied rollercoasters.

Maglev is the future of transport, but it's too expensive for most companies to touch.
I can't see it even being used on a coaster though... just imagine the carnage if there was a power cut?

Yes I forgot, this is Alton Towers we are talking about, if they have it there way, they would have the cars levitating above scaffolding tracks...so I think that the Maglev will be best left to the experts ;)

John Wardley must be spinning in his armchair at this atrocity.

How long as he been trying to build one at Towers, 25+ years? Soon as he retires BOOM they go and plonk a half arsed kids woody on a site that doesn't even use most of the space used by the previous ride. Shocking.

Not sure I completely agree with your analysis here ha ha. This could be a compact GCI with a lot of speed, some ground hugging moments and airtime and it uses pretty much all of the site that they can feasibly build on with modern planning laws. Just because this isn't the biggest coaster in the world doesn't mean it will be bad. If it's a decent woodie, which it could be looking at the plans it will be a great addition and enjoyed by the GP and me too.
