- Look on Google Maps - Mutiny Bay and Gloomy Wood are so far apart they may as well be at opposite ends of the park.
- Look at the plans for SW8, it's part of Mutiny Bay.
- Look at the numerous construction photos and videos. The MB side is fenced off, as they bring construction near the MB footpaths. Exactly where the entrances to The Flume were. No construction is going on anywhere near Gloomy Wood.

2018: Wicker Man - Pre-Opening Discussion

So GCI could be on site within two weeks?! That would be great to see - don't think this is going to be a normal woodie!
It must be towers they are talking about (towards the end of the video!)

Yes, that sounds about right. It was rumoured on opening weekend that GCI would be on site within the next few weeks, so the information in that video does seem to make sense with what I'd heard a couple of weeks ago. Given that RCDB only has one wooden coaster on its books that's due to open next year - SW8 - I think it's a pretty safe bet that Clair Hain was referring to SW8.

What sort of stuff will they be doing? Like will we see some actual wood go up?

I will happily hold my hands up and accept tomatoes to the face if it does indeed turn out to be the case
I'll be with you for that one, brother!
Maybe they could rent out the Angel of the North and cover it in wicker for a month or two, with some kind of message. That's if it is actually based on the Wicker Man. You can have that for free Towers
Edit - By the way, I'm not really into all of this modern art stuff, but, it must be a really nice thing for people from that part of the country to see that thing when returning home. I really like it.
I hated the Angel when they first brought it here, just looked like a rusty plane, but it's grown on me and everyone else I think. Unfortunately it suffers from poor location, the hill just isn't high enough. When returning home to the North East it's always Penshaw Monument which everyone sees first - you can see it from many miles away.

Wow, on site in a few weeks? Could it be?? WAIT!!!
I can't believe it.
A large scale Towers project running to time? Dare I even entertain the thought it MIGHT be ahead of schedule? Shocker. I'm sure they'll still be nailing queueline fencing together the night before opening...

I know, Saz - I was in shock myself when I found out! Regardless, it's very good news that work seems to be progressing at a good pace. I remember in May 2012 when the old Black Hole tent had been dismantled, but no digging had taken place on the site of what became The Smiler at all. It's so refreshing to see such a difference this time around with SW8!

It's just not going to be part of Gloomy Wood though. You surely can't expect people to not mention that fact at any point in the coming many months when people suggest it?
Totally agree that it's going to in what is now called Gloomy wood unless there is some kind of re-theme. People need to get over this small detail.I cannot believe people are actually still banging on about SW8 being in Gloomy Wood.
Here are 3 reasons why this waste of server database has to stop:
It's nice to speculate about future developments but this is getting ridiculous. I swear I'm going to have a thrombo if I keep reading this topic.

Some guy (or gal) has asked on the AT twitter account if they have more info about SW8.
They replied... "no, but there will be an announcement very soon".
Of course if the universe is really 13.8 billion years old, then relatively speaking very soon could mean next year, but fingers crossed!

InvadR seems to be getting great reviews so far which hopefully bodes well for SW8 with it being a similar size/style. If i remember correctly the SW8 plans indicated normal length GCI wooden coaster trains, where the smaller wooden coasters like InvadR that GCI have built so far all use shorter length trains, i wonder what effect that will have on the ride experience?

Being a shorter length means the trains can perform tighter manoevres without causing as much stress to them (I think), which is helpful for a small, compact layout.
SW8 will be a bit bigger than InvadR, at least length wise but they're both family thrill coasters so good reviews for that is a positive sign for SW8.
