It depends, more cars can = more track which means more people on the ride at the same time, but same throughput.

Do you think that the cars may stop for a little bit in certain scenes to tell the story, or do you think the flow will be constant?

I don't know on that front, but all I know is that the ride system is very, very short (well that is fairly obvious). You could assume it stops in front of scenes? It surely must to make the ride have a duration. There will be an absolutely pitiful number of ride vehicles and the dispatch interval will be over 1 minute.

Consider my posts just trying to temper any expectation that this will eat queues. It won't.

If this was a low-key, filler attraction- such as the bazillion dark rides at Europa Park- this would be fine. Can't remember the names of any of them (bar Snorri Touren but I haven't been since 2016), but they're fun little things to accidentally stumble into and laugh at. It doesn't matter that they have low capacity, as they're tucked away, and they're purely supplementary (and it's Europa anyway, these things probably do 7000pph).

The issue with this, it's a headline attraction, being marketed to hell and back, it's based off a popular (?) IP, and it's in an area that's been screaming for development. Sadly this really doesn't excite me- Towers need a new dark ride, and loads more fillers, but this really isn't the right fit. The capacity doesn't seem to be all that- probably won't do it until a random off-peak, 4pm close, in the hopes of queueing less than an hour for it.

The irony is this is the type of filler ride I'd love to see more of at Towers. I love the small EP dark rides. But filler rides only work if they are filling between other headliners.

Also just to clear up a misconception this ride system is nothing like the LDC dark rides. Those are trackless (and having walked through 2 of them potentially slightly bigger?).

Yeah I think the park have kind of shot themselves in the foot here. If the land was also opening with a high capacity stage show and a couple of new flat rides as well as the two that are being repainted, maybe they would've gotten away with it. I hope that the ride is successful, because I'd love to see a larger scale dark ride with an original theme come to the park, but I don't think this is going to go particularly well for the park.

They should’ve at least rethemed and reopened the cinema as well. Hopefully this is on the cards for 2022.

Is this the first of a new model from Garmendale, or are there others out there?

Looking through their website, they’ve done a surprising number of rides; for example, I never knew they built the immersive tunnel at Bobbejaanland, or the Hunger Games simulator at Motiongate!

Garmendale's main job is refurbishment, any ride refurbishment Merlin had done in the last ten years probably involved Garmendale, they have sold Merlin a few new rides such as the Legoland driving school and the Go Jetters ride, I didn't know they were doing Motiongate though.

I think the technology would have been better suited redoing Dual as a new and better haunted house

With Duel, it's more the scenes than the actual tech itself. Yes it could do with a refurb tech side but the scenes are way worse.

If the promo dies down after year 1 and the area is expanded, and the park gets a bigger family dark ride soon, then GG will fit nicely into the park's line up without carrying the weight of a 'healine' ride. But yeah if they open this thinking job done, it will be a big mistake

I guess you mean the scene lighting / animation stuff, the scenes themselves would only get worse if they were replaced today. Duel has the most detailed scenes of any dark ride in the country, it's just poorly lit and effects so broken.

It's both. Duel needs a complete PLC upgrade. This was scheduled to happen a couple of years ago but... no. The ride needs serious help but I worry that they'll just bulldoze it all within a few years and build an IP attraction. Anyway, worrying about going off topic. Duel discussion please continue here.

Gangsta Granny. Be interesting when it opens...

I still think it's poor to have GG as the sole attraction in this 'new' area (if we can even call it an area).

    I want to see:
    • 4D cinema reopened
    • A new wave swinger
    • Driving School retheme
    • Nickelodeon building utalised as an interactive walk-through attraction
    • New outdoor or indoor stage/arena for shows (could they fit/build a new theatre in the area, coaster corner possibly...)
    • The Dungeons rethemed (and made the headline attraction for the area) - potential alternative to SW9 in 2023/24?

While this ride will be popular and it's a popular IP, it's very poor that we're getting one low capacity ride and nothing more. Looking forward to seeing how high the queue times will be...

I think the park would have had plans for 2021 originally to see the area developed further. The reutlisation of the 4D cinema/theatre space and the Twirling Toadstool space would be obvious. But Merlin's Capex cycle has been cut to zero for now, so there's nothing doing.

The are also could use a coffee shop or small food outlet. This is what makes areas complete. Alton don't seem to get this.

Dungeons rework into the area is also important in the next few years. Seriously, who cares about the damn Dungeon?

In terms of my thoughts on this, obviously none of us here are the target audience for this, but I really do think the area will be a big hit with the families. David's books are incredibly popular, so as long as the area continues to expand in the future, I think it will all pay off and be a nice little area. I do agree getting rid of the Dungeons and making it a Walliams ride would also be the best option looking forward, retheme Cuckoo Cars to fit it, get something in the theatre, and add two smaller flat ride attractions in the future and it could be a pretty solid family area.

But yeah, as I've said, there's no denying it will be a popular area, as the kids love his books and I assume will jump at the chance to get to ride attractions based on their favourite books. Gangsta Granny in particular I believe is one of his most popular so it's a good start.

In terms of the Twirling Toadstool space, the Carousel is now in that space so any new flat ride would have to occupy an alternative area.

Like where the carousel used to be?
Or they could move the area around again because I know the Frog Hopper used to be in the toadstool space

They could quite easily move the carousel back to its previous location. It sort of blocks the Gangsta Granny entrance but once the initial popularity dies down after a few seasons it wouldn’t matter too much.
