The short track also means they'll have to dispatch the cars quickly and regularly to prevent them from bunching up together at the end of the ride.

I’m going off the more common and much cheaper design , which is being constructed at LEGOLAND, and already exists at LEGOLAND Florida along with multiple examples in shopping malls . This model does away with the expense of the huge lifting mechanics seen on Soarin , and amounts to not a lot more than a row of seats on a motion base with an open front . For context, the relatively obscure Futuroscope park in France recently added a flying theatre so the cost is by no means prohibitive

Even if it were to replace a SW project , we really don’t need another coaster at Towers right now

I caught most of it on TV earlier...
Got to say I was surprised the Granny dies at the end. Was a good message about moving on and enjoying the time you have.
Shame this'll no doubt be cut from the ride, given the space available. I imagine it'll be an exaggerated adaption of stealing the jewls (which wasn't that significant in the TV adaption) and not much else.

I'd be fairly confident it was closed for the same reason that almost every park worldwide delayed their 2020 addition, because they wanted the publicity boost at a time when things were more certain and attendance would be less restricted.

I don't see social distancing on this being much more difficult than any other dark ride.

Still unsure that they will open it as planned in 2021 though, for the above reasons.
 
I can't see why the late opening would stop them opening a new ride though... my logic is that its just an excuse because it sounds better that "our new ride has so little capacity that it can't feasibly operate under social distancing"

Could be wrong though.

Because when you want to open something new I'd imagine you'd want all the fanfair and press etc
 
Social distancing is a bigger problem on GG than, say, Duel due to the size of the vehicles. Realistically, it'd be one group per vehicle which means that it'll probably be running at substantially less than 50% capacity. It'd be rare to have more than 4 people in a car, with many going out with just 2 or 3 passengers. Given that the theoretical capacity is probably quite a bit less than Duel to begin with, that could pose a big problem on a new ride that everyone is going to want to go on.

You have to ask yourself why they build a new ride? Why make that investment?
The answer is to have a return on that investment, to encourage people the ride is aimed at to attend and spend.

Last year they literally could sell no more tickets, they were running at capacity because of the parkwide distancing restrictions, the same can probably be expected at the start of this season. That being the case the return in ticket sales on their investment would be zero. Financially it makes sense to hold back the release of that investment until they can capitalise on it.
 
Out of interest, is it known whether riders on Gangsta Granny will have 3D glasses? Or will the screens just be 2D, with the effects alongside them? I was only wondering because the park describes the ride as “4D” in all of their press releases, so I’d be interested to know whether there will be a genuine 3D element to it or whether they’re just referring to the animation and the effects.

Also, is there a reason why Garmendale haven’t been added to the TowersStreet attraction page as the ride manufacturer?

I assume 4D means you get squirted with water/air at some point.

It certainly is I'm afraid, and it's even shorter than that photo makes it look as it has a separate onload and offload with a small gap in-between.

Here's what it looks like on the plans;

Onload is in grey, offload is in orange. The whole thing jus screams "low capacity". :p
