[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

Even if its free, why would anyone who isn't an enthusiast want to use it anyway?

"Daddy can we go on RMT"

"No dear, I paid £100 entry to look at a building site, not go on rides"

As above,

My kids will probably want to go and have a nosey purely because they are fascinated by construction equipment and cranes more than anything else

There will be quite a few people who, if in that area of the park anyway will take the five minute detour to have a quick look. Yes it won't be packed, but I expect if it is adequately signposted most people would quickly go take a look if they see it when passing by.

Cynically suspect that it’s been made with the likes of TPWW in mind - easy way to get consistent free publicity for the coaster.

World’s first viewing platform over bomb site open for business soon then?

Sub terra I would think be aiming for the bank holiday weekend?

Cool, but it's an advert for a viewing platform. Actually hilarious stuff - granted it's probably only being seen by hardcore fans who bothered signing up for the feed, but still - an ad for some scaffolding. You can't make this up.

So what do you suggest exactly they just open it whenever without advertising it? It's good they're letting people know when it's opening I don't see anything wrong with it

Considering it's just a small, circumstantional addition - yeah, to be honest. It's something that suits a very specific niche that probably won't appeal to everyone, so making a fuss of it seems odd. It'd be like advertising a brand new pathway.

Just like a newspaper ad, tv ad, or a social media campaign - think of this as a platform (lol) for advertising. It'll allow regular visitors to keep coming back and track progress, and whether you like them or not, vloggers and sites such as ourselves to report on the progress through to 2024. There'll no doubt be more traditional outlets invited to visit for further marketing stunts involving the platform as 2024 gets closer too.

Whilst I'm in no way excusing the park's problems elsewhere at the moment, there's still a marketing budget there to be spent for this revamp. An addition like this is a large outlay at first, but will ensure coverage throughout the next year essentially for free. When creators such as Shawn are getting c.30-40k views per video, that's pretty valuable from a marketing perspective!

I didn’t bother signing up to the specific Nemesis updates page - because I assumed it would just be adding myself to the wider Towers email marketing list that I am already on.

However I haven’t received this viewing platform email, so I suspect they are keeping the lists separate - so you are right in that whilst it seems a bit crazy to advertise a viewing platform, it does appear it only goes out to those people specifically signing up to the Nemesis updates.

The wider park audience who might wander up for a quick look but certainly wouldn’t be particularly fussed that his is opening next week aren’t getting the email about it.

I've just received the email, and am probably reading too much into it but - could it actually referring to Sub Terra?

In my mind, you could read that email in two ways: Firstly as they're inviting you to view the site they've taken the samples from (ie the Nemesis pit) and all they're advertising is the viewing platform; or secondly, inviting you to view the samples and test results inside ST. If it is actually referring to ST, then this could be talking about going into that to view the samples, tests etc and then it all goes pear (egg) shaped in there as per the original ST storyline (let's face it, in all the marketing from the closing day till now, they are setting the storyline up to have some sort of disaster and the "everything is completely safe" mantra is just making that a bit more obvious to me). The line "We invite you to take a look yourself via our Observation Platform" could then just be meaning you'll go into ST via the new platform, so you'll see the pit, then go and see the samples and test results.

Yes like a normal theme park would.

But whatever it's a nice extra to have when it opens.
define “normal theme park” they are all different. There have been hardly any rollercoasters completely retracked, so what are you basing what other parks have done on?

This email went out specifically to those who signed up to get news on the nemesis retrack. The sort of people who might like to take a look and go “huh, that’s what it looks like without track in the hole”.
What’s the issue about informing those who asked to get information?

While I wouldn't discount the possibility of Sub Terra opening at the same time, especially with staff training being seen - there's separate entrances to the platform and to Sub Terra. So while there may be a link, the viewing platform will almost certainly be a separate thing to Sub Terra rather than form part of one single attraction. I think it's probably best to leave discussion in here to Nemesis and the viewing platform, then continue Sub Terra discussion in the dedicated topic :).

A theme park that is confident enough in its own attractions lineup and maintenance that it doesnt feel the need to try squeeze extra visitation out of every non-thing, and treats a viewing platform as a nice added extra for customers on the day.

It's no big deal, I just dont know why "just opening it without advertising" would be so far fetched, it's not an attraction

It is being treated as a nice added extra though. Only those who actively expressed an interest in getting emails about updates to Nemesis have been contacted. This isn’t being advertised, they’ve just informed interested people.

It's on the website too, so anyone can find it.

So still not advertising then, it’s just information available. It’s not even on the front page of the website, you need to click on Phalanx public announcement, if you don’t know what that means you aren’t going to click on it!

Ok, so "just opening it without advertising" is normal.
Again, only a handful of coasters have been fully retracked worldwide, there is no such thing as normal. But in this case it is not being advertised, just the information is available to those who want it.

It’s not like this is being marketed as ‘NEW FOR 2023’.

They’ve rather quietly announced a date via an email that a select few will get, maybe they will push it a bit more later in the season, if they do, so what? It’s there to generate interest and build hype for Nemesis returning.

There are clearly plans for it to play a big part in marketing otherwise they wouldn’t bother with the expense of building such as structure.

I don't particularly care either way, I was responding to this earlier comment that yeah, opening a platform without advertising it would be a normal thing to do:
So what do you suggest exactly they just open it whenever without advertising it?

Although Merlin parks do set a short sighted precedent of every aspect needing an immediate "marketing" reason for it to be worth doing, not seeing the better reasons of repeat visitation and value for money if visitors enjoy their day (real marketing). But maybe that's a discussion not worth bringing up over some scaffolding and an email
