I’ve been on park the last 3 days and ops have been fantastic all 3 days and the best I’ve remembered at towers for a long time! Let’s hope it continues into the Easter HolidaysAlton Towers Review 12th April 2024
Wow Alton Towers really did smashed today from amazing ops, to ride availability being great, to getting lots of rides done today safe to say Towers has redeemed itself since the start.
Majority of the rides rolling trains with minimal stacking. To many theming and effects actually working I am pretty impressed and I feel there are many good things to come if they continue with this stuff from today. And minimal queues.
Now I was really negative at the start of the season with good reason, however I don't want to be having a second visit can change perspective and I give criticism when necessary.
In terms of rides I have done today are as follows in order 14 rides done and thats with me dordling around other areas:
Rita
Th13teen (SRQ)
Hex the Legend of the Towers
Gangsta Granny the Ride
The Smiler (SRQ)
Oblivion (SRQ)
Spinball Whizzer (SRQ)
Wickerman
Congo River Rapids
Curse at Alton Manor
Nemesis Sub Terra
Nemesis Reborn
Toxicator
Galactica
So in terms of ride quality best ride I have ever had on Nemesis Sub Terra all 4 Towers were working and the lifts have been fixed. Also my best ride on Wickerman and Toxicator so far so the rides are definitely great.
Have some minor issues with some effects Hex I feel has too much lightning in it and the fire effect should be at the back of the generator. Curse had 1 effect not working and 1 not properly the melting dolls head and Emily Hide n Seek had a light but movement. And some small nitpicks Marmilizer needs some work ticklers not on nor swirling panels. Quite a few audio issues that could do with resolving round the park.
However if the park continues this great ops and availability it would massively improve the park. As there is multiple ride developments going on around the park Skyride return is so at the end of April good to see back.
I think Project Horizon may be about to start alongside a Dungeons refurb for sometime after as well as I noticed a lot of Monorail trains are having a refurb with Moonorail, Splash Landings and SteamPunk all sitting with two having doors open. I think they are trying to get it back on 6 trains but that is speculation.
So overall amazing visit best I have had in years and the park is making improvements. Change does take time I want Towers to do well. And hope these improvements to continue.
I don't think horizon is that intrusive to the duneons enterance, I think it is a bit off to the side but if they were doing that now, it would be the final pathing steps which they aren't doing. To echo, today was a really fantastic day to be on the park. Some new flats and were there !
A new fence has been erected on front of the former dungeons since opening day, I expect to potentially begin enabling works for Horizon
good point forgot about the solar pannels, yeah probably them installing solar pannelsThere was markings on the floor around the dungeon building relating to power ducting. They’ve just had (or are having) all those solar panels on the roof so could be relating to getting the output into the general park
Could be for other rides in the area or to get the ride system back open with animatronics in the ride, to reduce operating costsThere was markings on the floor around the dungeon building relating to power ducting. I've just had a thought, Gardaland's Animal Treasure Island is a new Merlin IP they're adding to multiple parks - could the dungeons boat ride be used for that (using the whole layout) and they may separate the simulator ride for another ride?Could be for other rides in the area or to get the ride system back open with animatronics in the ride, to reduce operating costs
Is this an original Merlin IP or a franchise that exists elsewhere, also I don't think it will work because Animal Treasure Island is a pirate sort of theme and they already have a pirate themed area. Also Majority of Altons themes have been original as of recentI've just had a thought, Gardaland's Animal Treasure Island is a new Merlin IP they're adding to multiple parks - could the dungeons boat ride be used for that (using the whole layout) and they may separate the simulator ride for another ride?
Those two ride systems, the 4D cinema and the Nickelodeon building could offer the park 4 different attractions in the coming years.
Considering Animal Treasure Island is essentially a pirate theme, I suspect it would be for Mutiny Bay or else there would be two pirate areas in the park. There’s also a nautical attraction with animals in CBeebies already too.I've just had a thought, Gardaland's Animal Treasure Island is a new Merlin IP they're adding to multiple parks - could the dungeons boat ride be used for that (using the whole layout) and they may separate the simulator ride for another ride?

It's a Merlin Magic Making original IP that Merlin are intending to replicate at other Merlin parks. Is this an original Merlin IP or a franchise that exists elsewhere, also I don't think it will work because Animal Treasure Island is a pirate sort of theme and they already have a pirate themed area. That is true, the main reason I was thinking Dungeons is because it is a ready made system.Considering Animal Treasure Island is essentially a pirate theme, I suspect it would be for Mutiny Bay or else there would be two pirate areas in the park. Mutiny Bay is fine as it is at the moment and there’s other attractions that need the attention. But I could see why they’d want to retheme it if they thought it would bring in merchandising opportunities. I would hope they’d add something of substance if we did get a retheme though.
I do notice Merlin do rarely clone attractions they often give each park their own original theme and story so I would be surprised to see it come wouldn't mind it as it is more capacity to the park but would rather something different in the Dungeons spot, maybe a remake of Toyland Tours with all brand new scenes and more up to date themes. And a remixed soundtrackIt's a Merlin Magic Making original IP that Merlin are intending to replicate at other Merlin parks.

Munity Bay would be the perfect location in an ideal world.
I also wouldn't trust Merlin to not duplicate ride experiences and themes at the same park. Towers has two frog hopper rides (one of which has two towers) and two haunted forest areas. Chessington has two rocking tug/kontiki style rides. I wouldn't put it past Towers to use Animal Treasure Island on the Dungeons system regardless of Munity Bay.
I was thinking that merchandising may be a bigger opportunity for Merlin with this IP in terms of this potential retheme.
