2025: General Discussion

Just to go back to the point about weather, if both Towers and Paultons were open today and we assume the 5 degree operating limit, according to forecasts Towers wouldn’t get above 3 degrees but Paultons would get 4 hours of above 5 operating time.

To be fair Chessington would also struggle to get above 5 as well.

This is why they need more dark rides and flat rides.

Project Horizon, Dungeons boat back running, 4D theatre…

But a choice has been made and we are where we are.

I'm very curious to see how the European parks fare the next few days with temperatures barely going above 0.

As it stands, pretty much all rides except advertised closures are open at Efteling, Europa, Disney and Phantasialand where it's currently 3/4C.

I don’t understand why they haven’t built some kind of entertainment building for the hotels. It could have a bowling alley, a decent indoors miniature golf course, kids games, a decent nighttime bar with live music, a couple of small movie screens where they show films old and new.

Not sure if anyone’s been to Gravity Max in Liverpool but something akin to that would be ideal. Hardly beyond them tbh and that’d instantly make the hotels are a fr more attractive option during the winter.

I’m not sure how much of the draw that would be, most folks could do those activities in their nearest town or city. Why pay a significant amount and travel (in potentially poor weather) to stay in a hotel at Alton Towers to do the same stuff?

They would be better off putting that money into enhancing the assets they do have (a theme park and waterpark) that aren’t common across the country and making them more suitable for the winter as a means to fill up hotel rooms.

We know there were plans for a Dinner Show to be added to the Resort-side of things, as of recently. It shows they’re still being ambitious with additions Resort-side, but for whatever reasons that and the new hotel that was rumoured fell to the wayside.

But in the grand scheme of things it’s not really a great deal is it, or something that’s stupidly expensive. One of the biggest complaints about the hotels is the lack of things to do for everyone once the park has closed.

The hotels are open year round so really they should be providing things for people to do. And tbh people don’t just stay at the hotels over closed season and never leave, they often venture out to other local attractions, pubs, walks etc.

They invest in getting adaptions for cold weather. Manufacturers will work on cold weather solutions if you want them.

But we then come back to resort access in bad weather, which is why I don’t think Towers will ever be 365, I do however, think it could open up to Christmas with some investment.

I completely agree. There’s very little to do in the hotels once the park has closed. It would be really simple to add a small cinema (just one screen) a small bowling alley and some pool tables and a bar that stays open beyond 11pm. Maybe something like KingPins at the Trafford Centre. They even have a little arcade and a decent food option!

Heck, the Namco bowling alley even have a small dodgems! Why not have that?

Are you implying that they should make Alton towers more like Butlins?

Has the Waterpark changed all that much within the 22 Years it has operated they could do with some more modern slides like a trap door slide or Space Bowl
I actually agree, the water park is long overdue a refurbishment or expansion. Not much space around it though, that's the issue.

Well I’d hope they’d aim higher than that 😂

They’re going to have increased competition when those lodges open at Moneystone which will have water sports and all sorts during the summertime.

A decent sized enticement complex for all weathers with multiple activities shouldn’t be out of the question. God even a couple of cinema screens would be something and wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.

JCB Golf Course has accommodation too. I appreciate it’s a different market, but still.

Speaking of JCB, I still think they’d be a good group to take AT off Merlin’s hands.
