[2025] Rulantica General Discussion

The lack of free drinking water at Rulantica is frustrating, but German businesses have a complete aversion to dispensing free water in general. I have insisted and have been poured some lukewarm glasses with delightful passive aggression. Although not at EP, who typically just won’t oblige you full stop.

I was surprised by this when we asked. The look of absolute horror on their face! Then she said to fill it in the toilet, where they're all hot/cold pre set mixer taps so no thank you. Being a tight Brit we just suffered or bought the extortionate pop - but @GooseOnTheLoose googled it for me and said it's not a legal requirement over there as it is over here. The lack of free drinking water at Rulantica is frustrating, but German businesses have a complete aversion to dispensing free water in general. And the pop bottle tax - is it me or do they look a bit surprised when you do actually return a bottle for your ¢25?

That’s definitely just you - very normal to return bottles and get your refund. And the pop bottle tax - is it me or do they look a bit surprised when you do actually return a bottle for your ¢25?

I think Rulantica really comes into its own in the evening, the families with kids tend to drift off and queues for the slides become much more manageable. The lighting after dark is really cool as well.
On the few occasions I've been I've taken the full day and taken a leisurely approach; maybe done a few things in the morning - Vildstrom, Vikinglop etc. and then proceeded to do very little in the afternoon, which is where lounging areas like Hyggedal really come into their own (only a small upcharge, worth it for the unlimited free towels and valuables lockers alone!). This is also a good time to try out the spa facilities if you are so inclined. I tend to avoid the dinghy slides completely until after 7pm.
I have to say I really can't imagine doing Rulantica on a travel day and having to leave at a specific time. For one thing, the whole showering, changing and drying hair malarkey just takes me ages! And travelling with sopping wet swimwear and towels really isn't fun.

I remember doing a few German music festivals and there'd always be people, surprisingly well dressed, on the look out for discarded bottles so they could get them to return. That’s definitely just you - very normal to return bottles and get your refund.
Even in Munich Airport last year was about to bin all the bottles I didn't need anymore and some locals asked for them.

The having to leave at a specific time was completely deliberate - I knew I would hate it, so wanted a hard stop to ensure my escape. The only downside was wet kit. Tbh I'd had enough after an hour.
Take it they don't have those machines for drying swimming costumes in the changing room?

No they do not. Which I was surprised about as surely that's a basic thing for a water park to have?Take it they don't have those machines for drying swimming costumes in the changing room?

So I've purchased a Lagerhus sofa thing and some soft drinks refillables for the kids..one think just crossed my mind do I have to keep putting the cups back in a .locker every time we all go on a slide together or do you reckon leaving them in the sofa area is ok? I'm thinking what's to stop someone taking the cup once lying around? Are the lockers far from that area?

Just stick them behind the sofa; it shouldn't be an issue. Despite Snorri's many arms, Rulantica isn't known for petty theft.

I think I now understand how my mum feels about theme parks - just give me somewhere fairly quiet and comfy to sit and book to read and the rest of the family can go and fill their boots. I'll hold the bags.
It is for this reason that Rulantica is, for me, the best water park I have ever been to - by a mile.
For a small upcharge (€12/£10.50), you gain access to Hyggedal. A quiet, tranquil, spa-like oasis with loungers a-plenty, free drinking water, valuables lockers, free fruit, complimentary towels, indoor and outdoor terraces, saunas, steam-rooms, a bar/snack area...
Children are not permitted.
I spend hours in there just relaxing.

The problem is when the children are your own children it is harder to escape from them...It is for this reason that Rulantica is, for me, the best water park I have ever been to - by a mile.

EDIT: where's the free fruit???
I went once. There were 2 young children in there. They ran riot and were very noisy. I may go again in, just as easier to go over to the quieter part where the new slides are. Found that area quieter than my visit to Hyggedal. It is for this reason that Rulantica is, for me, the best water park I have ever been to - by a mile.

There’s a bowl of apples in the lounge area off to the side by reception. Took me a few visits before I discovered it but is a nice place to sit and chill on sofas more comfortable than the loungers, and you feel like you can have a bit more of a quiet conversation with friends than in the main section where people are trying to sleep.EDIT: where's the free fruit???

They served her a proper mojito so I'm guessing she passes for 18! She can also be trusted to be quiet so in the very unlikely event I end up back there might try this hyggedal. The problem is when the children are your own children it is harder to escape from them...

Walking up the stairs from the loud, active main room of Rulantica into Hyggedal feels like entering a magical portal.
Though I've never seen one (and thankfully!), apparently children above 12 are permitted in Hyggedal, though the textile-free areas are "generally only available" to those 18 and above. Not entirely sure what there is to do in there for the 12-17 crowd other than sit on the loungers facing the big window, which I think would have been a dreadfully boring choice for me at that age when there was a full waterpark a staircase away.

I visited Hyggedal on my last trip to Rulantica, convincing my friends to go for the upcharge as I'd heard so many positive stories about it and was very hyped...
...only to be underwhelmed lol.
I mean, it's nice. Maybe it's just me, maybe I just don't get that kind of area? I like relaxing as much as the next guy, but I just found it... boring
