Freak incident? Not really, that is a rainwater drain and should be directed to a soakaway. If that is raw sewage coming out of there (human waste) then that is not a freak incident, they should not be connected

How can you possibly know that that's a rainwater drain? Looks like any standard pit cover to me... could be either foul waste or surface water... far more likely foul waste lol.

How do I know? Umm probably the fact there is no toilet connected to it perhaps? If it is raw sewage coming out then they should not be connected. If it's just muddy water then fair enough.
