2025: Toxicator - General Discussion

Finally went on Toxicator today. Fun ride! I slightly prefer Talocan.

Weirdly the fountains were running, but only constantly at the lowest level and not interacting with the ride.

Also noticed a constant leak of water down the side of the main queue under the fountains, even though they weren't properly running.

The water is starting to look a little manky I noticed yesterday, so I wonder if this is why they are not being used.

As it’s weird they aren’t even being used in the previous mode where they get no where near you. They are just set in their idle mode.

I thought the same when I went the other week. You have to question the build. If you plan on building a ride that interacts with water in what is effectively a forest environment surely you would have planned for this and ensured the water is treated to avoid this.

In this video, Dean notices the same thing and there is a big puddle formed in the tunnel on the wrong side of the drain grille. He thinks there is a leak from the water tank above and it's dribbling down the wall and collecting in the tunnel. Unfortunate its leaking "into" the tunnel because its missing the drain. If it leaked in a way that it ran into the drain, I suspect they'd keep the fountains on.

Sounds like a job to be completed over the closed season.

Bump!

I rode Toxicator for the first time yesterday, and really enjoyed it! I was expecting to feel at least a little bit dizzy afterwards, but to my surprise I felt absolutely fine. Definitely a ride which I will do every visit, which is certainly not something I thought I'd say!

I love everything about it; the theming, soundtrack and ride experience are all fantastic, and it's great how you can see the ride from so many places, the queue line especially. It was cool walking through the tunnel as well, which is so detailed.

Overall, Toxicator is an exceptional addition to Alton Towers, and I can't wait to ride it again next time I visit!

I notice now on Toxicator the fountains on the Blade side were off completely (and the water looked pretty grim tbh) with the fountains on the Galactica side on, but still just doing nothing other than their idle mode, but at least the lights were in show mode.
Yeah I was allocated the side facing Blade (Boson) on Saturday, and the fountains were completely off.

They'd be better removing the fountains, making 2 pools of churning green liquid that's lit from underneath and then creating a new program that doesn't hold you over it too much.

If the issues with these fountains doesn't serve as a metaphor for the monumental change within Tussauds and Merlin over the years then I do not know what does.

Tussauds were the first and the inventors of putting fountains on Huss Topspin rides, no one had done it before them at Chessington with Ramesis then subsuquently Ripsaw. They were designed and built well.

They literally nailed this 30 years ago. Now they cannot seem to get it right for the life of them. Something they themselves, pioneered.

Im fairness though, the people who worked on those fountains all those years ago, probably do not work in the industry anymore. So the knowledge and skills could quote possibly have been lost.

Also bear in mind these water features were raised above a pathway the originals were not.

The more you look the more Tussards and Merlin are not to different.

Both have allowed effects not to work and both have removed flat rides without replacement

Excellent post

I’d argue you could apply similar to food, retail, entertainment and soundtracks.

The sad, slow “shitification” of things over the past 30 years in the UK will be studied in decades to come.

Letting the marketers lead theme parks rather than building themselves as purely a themed entertainment brand, is in its final throws it feels now.

They have lots of excellent blueprints to follow and continue to miss the point.

In fairness the unnecessary over-engineered "let's put the ride on top of a major pathway" is the starting issue. Everything else stems from that decision.
To be fair though, with the gondola being double-sided they didn't really have a choice. Raising it up ensures that everyone gets a good view, instead of one side aways facing the trees, and ensures that spectators have a clear view of both sets of riders.

Just do like Talocan and have one side facing a wall 😂. As much as I love Talocan, facing that wall isn't the best.
