[202X] Project Horizon (SW9?): Planning Approved

A flying theatre wouldn't go amiss BUT based on JWs comment, if indeed related to this. It feels like it needs to be something with a bit more "wow". Unless he was just playing with people.

Apologies @Danscott22; I thought that the Alton Mouse site was closer to the fence than it was… ignore me. @Squiggs has a far better answer.

Where actually is the Alton Mouse site, then? I’m clearly looking at the wrong area…

I would also imagine it will be a fairly large building if they are doing a public consultation, as otherwise if it was a fairly small building i would have thought they would have just gone straight to a planning application like they normally do.

A mack inverted powered coaster/dark ride much like Arthur at Europa and How to train your dragon at motion gate would be a great fit for alton, adding a dark ride/coaster combination and appeal to wide variety of guests, especially the family market where they need more rides. However its not a cheap ride system, coupled with the cost of the building and theming required etc for such an attraction its prob above the budget for a new ride at Alton.

I’d wager that the consultation could be due to them using Coaster Corner, which would arguably be opening a can of worms somewhat if they didn’t go through an extensive planning process, what with the site’s history.

Anyone planning to attend? Ill be working unfortunately otherwise would pop up to report back.

I'm at Drayton that day unfortunately, otherwise I would attend.
I would assume they will do an online consultation as well, like Chessy and Thorpe did.

FT on this pic is the Flag Tower. The rest is labelled by Google Maps. I think we're looking at the circled area unless they do a bit of tree clearance or demolish a few buildings. There is another area to the right, nearer to Dungeons, but that wouldn't be consistent with being on the old Mouse site.Screenshot_20220904-112620.png

I'll update this later when I have more time, but this is roughly how Coaster Corner and Adventure Land 4-11 were laid out.

Edited to include a more comprehensive/accurate plan.

The space back there is very large, the fence that's been blocked off by flats over the years was just the entrance to the corner. They did fit 2 whole coasters back there for 2 years. @Squiggs will be able to answer this better than me as I'm going from the memory of being a 9 year old but was the Alton Mouse not on the left and Beast on the right? I'm confused as to which part would be permitted development land and which would not? You can see a rough outline of some of the old corner by looking at the paving on Maps but it's hard to picture since it was so long ago now.

Edit: it's already been answered! Thanks. This area is even bigger than I thought!

Oh wow; we’re either going to be seeing a very big building (which is possible if this is an SW level investment as is being suggested by some, and is also possible if the closer part of Coaster Corner is covered by the GDO rights), or there’s going to be some sort of big separating path between TWODW and the new attraction… could the new indoor ride possibly not be the only thing on this new area? Could some other new things be built on the GDO land?

haha, snap.

I think you are right that the site we are looking at is actually the Mouse and Beast site, I reckon they have just labelled it as the Alton Mouse site to avoid confusion, given that the Beast moved.

Think they need to remove as few trees as possible? Hopefully they will take out as much of that concrete dumping ground out as possible. I like the idea of it being hidden away to some extent but it will require careful work not clash with Walliams. It will be interesting to see if the Dungeon survives beyond the opening of this.

Interestingly, I remember a thread being made a few months back talking about a “big development” being approved in The World of David Walliams; the poster described it as “some sort of family coaster”: https://towersstreet.com/talk/threads/ccl-walliams-world.6307/

Their exact words were:
I’m surprised no one has mentioned it yet?

Big development due to take place, some sort of family coaster?

It’s been given the go-ahead and work due to start clearing nearby area, woop!

At the time, the thread was locked due to lack of evidence for the rumour.

However, now we have confirmation of at least a semi-major investment in (or at least near) The World of David Walliams… could this poster have been onto something?

It certainly looks as though we’re getting a “big development” in that area, and an indoor attraction could certainly facilitate “some sort of family coaster” as the poster describes.

It might sound crazy, but… has Alton’s next big thing been hiding in plain sight since June?

Out of interest, do we think that this could be part of The World of David Walliams? Or do we think that it could be its own separate thing that is simply accessed via The World of David Walliams (similar to Cuckoo Cars)?

My personal hunch is that it will be the former. Putting something unrelated to Walliams there would significantly inhibit TWODW’s future expansion potential, and if the land is anything like CBeebies, I’d imagine it will require a fair amount of expansion and/or change over time.

I also don’t see the Walliams estate being too happy with the prospect of a non-Walliams ride being put within the area (or at very least being accessed solely via the area), and Towers does need to pander to them to be able to keep using the Walliams IP.

That would make sense, although if true it obviously wouldn't be SW9 like a lot of people seem to think it is.

It could be both Walliams and SW9; there’s nothing saying that an SW has to be a thrill coaster. The codename could simply be used to denote major investments.

Or perhaps what TT meant was that the investment was equivalent to an SW in scale?
