Alton Towers Future Accommodation

What they need is somewhere us old farts can escape all the screaming kids. In the ideal world, I'd like to see an over 18's only casino / hotel. Not that I care for casinos myself, but a lot of people do, and it would bring in a hell of a lot of money for them.
The evening entertainment should be rat pack style lounge singers, with waitress table service to bring you your drinks. Nice and classy, whle still being informal.

Never gonna happen though :(

No, just no. Its a family Resort, it should stay that way. If you really want to avoid kids and fun, go to a B&B in the village or something, avoid the THEMED hotels.

Why should people who want a bit of peace in the evenings have to miss out? And to me, "fun" does not involve kids running wild and shouting.

I got a great idea, base on Diogo comments, a themed area call "The Old Fart's Zone"

The area would have rocking chairs, comfortable slippers and werthers original in bowels (just like peanuts use to be). Has a big TV showing programs like. back in the war, and the history of knitting :D

It could be open to all, but it would be so uncool kids would stay away :D

That should go beyond a joke and become a reality. It might keep the Ropers happy.

I may be the only 14 year old boy in history to actually like the sound of that idea. I hate places with screaming toddlers and crying brats. I like a place where you can have a nice quiet drink with some Jazz band playing in the background.

Yeah I act older than I actually am. I say older, probably about 40 years older.

:)

Even I can concede that a whole hotel being childfree is a pipe dream. But surely it's not too much to ask to have one bar where you can have some peace and quiet? To actually be able to gave a conversation without shouting?

They need a bar where after 9 kids aren't allowed in. Alton Towers is a resort that should appeal to everyone, currently it only appeals to kids and family..

Sorry for bringing EP into this, but that's how evening entertainment works, the shows appeal to everyone and the bars are brilliant kid free zones.

Wasn't Dragon Bar designed to be an adults only bar? What happernd to that rule?

And now they have ruined any peace and seclusion it once had by making it open plan...

I could easily see Dragon bar and the surrounding area easily being for adults, they just need to get rid of the awful kid friendly entertainment!
Maybe opera music or a jazz band or something :)

The thing is though, Splash can't accommodate for the capacity. Maybe when the lodges open it will come with a couple of different themed bars/pubs/Kid theatre dotted around the 'streets' to accommodate for the capacity of kids running around and maybe finally you will get your adult based hotel =]

[edit:bad language removed]

Dragon Bar was indeed only for adults many moons ago. I remember not being allowed in there as a kid.

They seemed to had dropped it after Splash Landings opened. Then they made the horrific mistake of opening the Dragon Bar up to the main area so it all connected for the evening entertainment.

On the subject of the hotel bars, does anyone know why the staff are so slow at serving? Don't get me wrong, they are all very friendly, and great otherwise, but it takes forever to get a drink. There was a good fifteen minute queue in Ma's last Saturday.

I reckon it's a conspiracy to stop people getting drunk.

On the subject of bars... Is there another in ATH? Or is there only the Dragon Bar?

I thought there was, I'd just never physically seen it :)

They have a sliding wall that covers it when it's closed. It's to the left of the doors out to the garden.

Yep, thanks for both clearing that up for me :) that's exactly where I thought it was but I was just unsure of anything about it as I've never physically seen it.

In all my time I have only ever seen that other bar in ATH open once!

And I agree Diogo the service in both hotels is the slowest you will ever find in any bar in the world. I don't know if when you apply for a job you have to prove to be slow or something.

Its one of the little things that annoy me, last weekend there must have been about 20 people in a queue at Splash. It also doesnt help at ATH that they also get drinks from the bar for all the resturants, so there are loads of staff behind the bar, but only one or two serving people at the bar.
