Not really, he only scratched him with the knife. If he had actually killed him, or caused serious injuries he would've got longer.

I think four years is an acceptable length.

I know the DM is sensationalist at times, but come on.
 
from what i have read, he was stabbed in the Femoral artery area of the leg. If that had been hit by the blade, it would of caused loss of blood volume at such a rate that he would of been in Pulseless electrical activity with in minutes.
