Area retheme ideas

I think the moderate "theming" dissonance of Alton Towers (and Thorpe Park to a lesser extent) is having today may have emerged due to Merlin deciding to carry on with old Tussaud's "grim and gritty Urban Fantasy" shtick, which worked really well and was a breath of fresh air in the very late 1980s, 1990s, & 2000s, but all seems rather passe now?
