Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2025 Discussion

Correct and look how long the work took on the Nash for a small part of the ride to be re-tracked, for that to be done the pleasure beach would of had to get consent from Historic England. It can take up to 8 weeks for LBC and it's clearly a very lengthy processes for IMO a small amount of work.

Does anyone actually know if there was any retracking done on Nash while it was closed ?

I have seen no evidence of this , either while I have been at the park or found anything on YouTube. And the park have not claimed to have retracked any of it as far as I know.

The only thing anyone spotted as far as i know was a bit of repaint work and some work on the lift hill.

My guess is the main reason the ride was closed for so long was to save money by not having it open, or as @rob666 says , because they don't have the resources.

Simple as that.

Wooden Coasters always need retracking often so it's a constant process. It was painted up a bit earlier this year it had scolding on it

I’ve been really out of the loop with BPB lately. What rides are currently closed?

Skyforce? Nash? River caves? Is Nickelodeon Land still closing early every day? Has it been another quiet start to the season? I know there’s plenty of BPB experts on here who can fill me in on all of this.

I’m no BPB expert, but as far as I can tell:
  • SkyForce remains closed, but has recently had some action around it.
  • Grand National has reopened.
  • River Caves remains closed.
  • A few of the smaller rides remain closed.

SBNO:
River Caves
Dodgems
Skyforce
Thompson Carousel
Eddie Stobart
Alpine Rallye

Removed:
Gallopers carousel
Grand Prix (partially)

Nick land closes an hour earlier every day, Doras spends a lot of time closed and I think one of the rides is still SBNO in there

Valhalla opens at 2pm every day

Steeplechase is on reduced hours, tends to be 12-4

Dipper has been opening late, but we have learned this week it'll be closed on weekdays. It only runs one train

Grand National reopened a couple of weeks ago, two trains.

Bowl-a-drome arcade, and the Planet Rock building have been demolished for an Intamin gyroswing called Aviktas, expected 2026.

Ice Blast reopened as Launch Pad.

Think that's everything notable this year

I’m catching up here, but just to say: -

- I think Rob nailed it on ops. The closures aren’t primarily driven by Listed status. Listing allows maintenance of the structure, which would cover most items required to keep the ride running. The reduced capacity and closures result from a desire to save cash, both directly and indirectly. They can save money by not running the ride, they can save money by not having as many engineers.

- This transition nonsense is just people parroting the park’s spin. Transition implies improvement, without committing to it. Clearly it can transpire to be transitioning to something worse. It’s a smoke screen to excuse ride closures and poor operations.

- Yes, we’re getting a new ride, but a new thrill ride is badly needed - it’ll be 8 years since the last one. Is a new coaster required? Arguably not, but the park certainly needs more new attractions to draw people in. The current poor operations will not be encouraging return visits.

On the advice of the admissions staff, I didn't even make it into the park this afternoon.
Little bit busy.
Little bit windy.
Little bit wet.
Rather a few moody moist scowling children.
Ninety minute queue for Infusion anyone?

It puzzles me why the schools keep hitting the very last week of term though...a week or two earlier for some schools would remove the silly last week crush.

And the coaches, they have always queued them up along the prom in schools weeks, it manages the entry queue, better to have them contained on coaches than scrapping their way through the entry gates en masse.

The Beach version of the monorail batching at the Towers entrance.

Over three hours queue for the Big One, two hours for the Streak and Icon...at least an hour for the rest of the major rides...yet no dipper, because it is a weekday...
Long may the school trips continue, but pity the poor children!

Which is why avoid going to parks this time of year we know its school trip season.

We might know that, but why should a casual visitor have to know that?

Yes, it is true that summer will be busy to some extent. That’s the case anywhere. But why should it be the case that a member of the public should rock up to the park and have their day impeded for no good reason?

I do have some sympathy with the parks over school trip season. It is a busy time of year, and children are a naturally… polarising demographic, to say the least.

But I think Blackpool have well and truly shot themselves in the foot by closing a headline coaster midweek at this time of year, particularly seeing as midweek is arguably busier than the weekends for the next week or so. They cannot entirely blame high crowd levels for high queue times if they are making the choice to close a headline coaster during a busy period.

Closing Big Dipper is something that will likely cause or contribute to negative feedback and is something they brought entirely upon themselves (yes, there could be maintenance that needs doing, but this is not the time of year to be doing it if there is).

Everything under thrill rides on Queue Times.com is currently above 60 minutes, with some as high as 140… yet a headline coaster stands closed by choice. I really do not understand that decision making.
