Blackpool Pleasure Beach: 2025 Discussion

But the reason Wild Mouse was removed is it couldn't be insured anymore and running a ride without insurance is just silly.

This is not a fact.

Nobody knows the real reason.

We all have our suspicions, me included, but there is very little to go on. And lack of insurance is not likely in my opinion.

Not directly Pleasure Beach related, but may be of interest - South Pier have submitted plans to build a Star Flyer and a Log Flume, on land either side of their entrance arcade.

I can imagine an objection going in from a Mrs. Thompson

Planning portal link (contains some plans):

Didn’t planning get refused for retaining the temporarily relocated log flume on that site a few years ago?

Usual no source stuff shakey.
The ride closed mid season, with insurance (presumably) in place for the season with their own brokers, allegedly.
Additional safety material caused further serial problems, further near misses occurred, and the gaffer pulled the plug as the ride was a health and safety nightmare.
The ride had to shut temporarily after every last minor "incident" to record the matter fully in the log, due to litigation risks, which meant it often had to close, and the queue cleared, in the middle of the day.
Often.

From the plans the Star Flyer looks very much like the Big Ben Tower which is currently being finalised/tested at Funtime in Austria.

The frontage of the piers is a long running saga, started with the Beach being given sole rights from the south pier south in return for land for the new prom, also how they got their free planning in the park rights.
The old foreshore area is arguably part of the south pier lease, so is part of the pier technically...allegedly.
Fresh fuss a couple of years ago, but this old git can't recall or find with a quick search.
The issue will probably run for another hundred years.

Aren't all the piers owned by the same group now?

Just think the Star Flyer might be better suited to by the north or Central pier to pick up business from people who don't go down to south pier and the visual of it being so close to the tower.

Experienced that in the last year of ops - waiting for a super to sign off the "reset". No idea why as all the blocks are/were in the station I think, but obviously operator error could easily creep in. Not rocket science to implement automatic fail-safes, but probably no change from £1m.

Can't wait to buy a stick of wood from the Nash. Even at £10 a pop Mandy will be quids in 😁

They are indeed

I believe the view is to keep North Pier as a traditional promenading pier, with just the helter skelter, train and carousel.

Central Pier to be a mix of everything.

South Pier to be all about the bigger rides etc.

With the Central Pier/Tower area having a Star Flyer for their Winter event you’d think this planning app would pass through fairly easily?

On one of the episodes of the Pleasure Beach documentary Geoffrey Thompson kicked off to the council for allowing “tacky” rides to placed outside the Sandcastle.

They don't and never used to, as that's what the turnstiles are for.
The Turnstiles should be at the entrances to the ride it would make it easier for people to ride and prevent Non Riders to know where the queue entrance is. some of Pleasure Beaches queues are really confusing
