Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Yeah the airtime is great and as per most Mack megas it is warming up nicely now. So much quicker than 11 o'clock ride the ride I just had now.

Back round we go again. Then beer. Maybe.

This is quite possibly the stupidest question I've ever asked but..

We're going to Blackpool for the illumination switch on....is the pleasure beach likely to be so packed it's not worth bothering with?

It would seem as though BPB are giving the Big One its own soundtrack by The Notable Stranger, the composer who did Icon's soundtrack, in order to celebrate its 25th anniversary:

Great news; Icon's soundtrack is fantastic, in my opinion, so a similar sort of thing for the Big One would be brilliant! Although I was under the impression that the Big One opened on 28th May 1994, not 29th June 1994?

It should be, however it's almost certain that the park will close well before the sun goes down and as such the illumination's will have no impact what so ever on the park. It's likely to be a typical Friday during term time.

The ride opened on the 28th May and then had its official opening ceremony on the 29th June.

Have to say throughly enjoyed today, good operations across the park although I could hardly say it was busy but a massive improvement on my previous visit. Shame the big one was down all day, didn’t think the wind was that bad

It’s been pretty windy in the north west today compared to the last couple of weeks. Even more so at 235 feet above sea level of course. The Wild Mouse never closed due to weather!

It did :p

It went through a period after a major refurbishment where is really struggled in the rain of all things (every other coaster runs better with a moist rail!) but I saw it dip and require evaluation a number of times, think the said refurbishment was around 2007.

Hi guys. Just wanted to ask; I'm headed to Blackpool with my parents for the Late Night Riding event on 24th August, and I was thinking I'd quite like a night ride on Icon. I also know my mum would like a Big One night ride. My question is; how likely is it that I'll be able to get a night ride in on both these attractions, as well as potentially some others? The closest I've ever had to a coaster night ride was the sunset ride I had on Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, so I'd like to be able to say that I've done a genuine coaster night ride!

I've also heard people say that the Big One is their favourite coaster in the UK if ridden at night; smooth and full of airtime! And if the likes of Helix & Taron are anything to go by, then Icon at night should be nothing short of breathtaking!

Icon easy, Big One less so.
Big One often gets silly after dark queues, and if it is a bit windy so only running one train, it can be three hours.
No thanks.

Depends if you want a dusk ride or a proper night ride. Bear in mind that the south end of the park closes around 8.45/9pm in preparation for the fireworks display. As @rob666 says the Big One does get stupid queues, but Icon should be fine due to its physically short queue line.

I remember having the last ride of the day on Icon last year on the late night close and it only just getting properly dark.

Ah right. Thanks for the info, guys!

Out of interest, is there a way to tell how long queues are at Blackpool, as they don't have digital queue times like the Merlin parks?

I'm really excited for the Late Night Riding event, though; I loved Blackpool last year, and what's not to love about rides until 10pm? I really hope I can explore some of the non-coaster side of the park as well as getting back on some of the coasters; I'd really like to try some of the park's more historic and unique rides; any recommendations? I also hope Valhalla is open this time!
