Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Some interesting news posted on twitter by Scott from PBE.

Pleasure beach are opening from 4pm to 9:30pm every Friday in September.

I think that's a really good idea, as it will give people chance to visit after work on Friday (if you happen to live close enough that is)

It's another 30 mins shaved off the total time open in the day which would have otherwise been 11am to 5pm, but I think its a good move from the park on days when it would be very quiet, so well worth trying out.

I really hope it works and they extend this idea in the future.

That's quite nice also for folk who are spending the weekend. I think in these times, thinking outside of the box is the way forward. We've seen ATR willing to have a go with events and later openings through last summer into the autumn, and hopefully this pays off for BPB.

This is great, will definitely book a room at Boulevard for this. Hopefully the weather will still be pleasant by Blackpool standards and the sun will set for a few hours in the dark, too.

Interestingly, this Friday night opening was a former tactic of Pleasureland Southport.

Hope this works out for them, when I visited Liseberg's Halloween event a few years ago they opened mid-afternoon on the Friday and it seemed to work out for them - gives people the opportunity to pop in after work/school.

I'll definitely be there one of these evenings, BPB still my favourite UK park at night.

Gröna Lund does the same. On my visit on 2019 the park literally opened as the schools closed. With the addition of a concert later in the evening, which brought in a older crowd, it created a great atmosphere.

There is an issue here, however. Stockholm and Gothenburg are lively, cosmopolitan cities with lots of employment and opportunity in and around the cities which are excellently served in all corners by a comprehensive transport system. People in suits by day can go to play in the park by night. Blackpool isn't really on the same page (sadly) - but, obviously - I still hope it works.

Will be interesting to see the pricing stratergy! Would be good if they could make a bundle up for the friday and saturday entries for a reduced price.

More use of the casino would be great. Food was the hardest thing to get hold of last season, as @shakey will attest to. Beer was, thankfully, available in numerous places.

Also, this would be fun. Curious to know what would be practical, Streak, perhaps? I have been up on the National, that was interesting but you really had to watch yourself. Also stomped round the Southport Cyclone back in the day, which was a little disconcerting because the handrail felt like it was a foot too low.

Turning the lights on for two extra months for a second consecutive year???
Bloody liars!
They turned them off for lockdown!

What's the Jolly Rodger Bar? I've never heard of or seen it? Also for Walk a Woodie. It would be an experience to walk the whole track but I'm not sure it would be as interesting to walk just the lifthill.

Is it what used to be the Gaslight Bar?

I’ve always been quite fascinated by the location of different venues in the Casino Building.

I think the Carousel Bar is now Horror Bar, but the light fittings in there also suggest it might be the Gaslight bar? There was also Diamond Lil’s, but not too sure where this was located.

Slightly more easier to locate is the soda fountain which is now the ticket centre I believe and Costa has gone through all types of change, from the Fish Inn and Savarin Restaurant, to Tiger Bills and Beach Grill.

I’m guessing the show locations have generally been static, although I’m not sure and I know there was a billiard room in the basement at one point.

Does anyone have a better idea of the Casino’s historical layout and locations?
