Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

That's actually quite a clever name for a coffee shop, references the Pleasure Beach's founder and makes a pun about coffee beans. My casino research is already out of date, I believe Costa is now W. G. Beans Coffee, according to one of the discussion groups.

Big Dipper POV from 1991. Always interesting to see how barren South Park looks without the Big One. Ride looks to be tracking really well here.
Anyone know when the MCBR was removed? The booth is still there in the video, but I think the brake has gone - hard to tell.
* very frustrating YouTube will give you the embed code for things that you're not allowed to embed.

Oh wow; I can’t quite believe how different the park looks without the Big One! At the time, I can imagine that no one would ever have thought that a coaster like the Big One would have worked within Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and some might firstly have been very averse to how it looked, but now it’s been open for 27 years, the park skyline looks incredibly odd, and strangely empty, without it.
I’m not sure whether any of you would agree, but I can’t think of another UK theme park installation (possibly even another worldwide theme park installation) that has completely redefined its park’s skyline in the way that the Big One did at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It just completely dominates the entire park, and I imagine that that effect would have been exacerbated back when it opened, as the park didn’t have quite as many tall rides back then (things like Infusion, Ice Blast and Icon hadn’t been built, and their respective predecessors weren’t exactly tall rides).
On a random tangent; now that the Ultimate is SBNO, the Big One actually takes the crown for the longest roller coaster in Europe: https://rcdb.com/rhr.htm?m=2&l=25852

It's got to be up there on that criteria. I think largely because the park didn't have anything on that scale beforehand, in fact the Big One required the removal of the tallest existing structure.
If you look at Magic Mountain or Cedar Point, the addition of massive rides doesn't have the same impact as it's just another one being added to a skyline, that has been (literally) growing over time.

Going against my rule of posting when I've been drinking, but just had the strangest memory pop up.
Does anyone remember a 'Dunk the Freak' game in the early 1990s on South Park, near the Veteran Cars. Although, instead of it being a Coney Island style freak, it was a girl in a glass box?
You threw balls and if you hit a target, she dropped into a pool of water?

Bizarrely this does ring a bell. Don’t remember the name but I’m sure I’ve seen what you describe somewhere around that time. Can’t even remember if it was BPB or not.

Intriguing story from the Mail: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ying-Blackpool-Pleasure-Beach-theme-park.html
I don’t know whether this means anything or not, but it’s certainly an interesting item nonetheless! I wonder what Robbie Williams might have bought to the park?

One of the most bizarre ‘news stories’ I have ever seen. The fact that it says “The former Take That singer revealed yesterday how he had been approached by the owners of the North East attraction to see if he would like to buy it.” tells you all you need to know.

Is it April the 1st already ?
I would rather Noel Edmonds buy it to be perfecty honest !!
Love the line about renaming the Big One to Alan Carr's Big One
Well it is North East from where Robbie Williams lives

Yeah this is just a bit of viral marketing helped along by Robbie Williams. As mentioned he's a regular visitor, and was involved (well the press stuff said so!) in the design of the dodgems which replaced The Whip. Just from the quote from BPB alone, it's clear they're in on it:
A spokesman from the park told MailOnline: 'Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which is wholly owned by the Thompson family has "No Regrets" that Robbie Williams may have "Misunderstood" that "Something Beautiful" like Pleasure Beach is available to buy.
'With a view "Beyond the Sea" from the top of The Big One it's no surprise he is interested, but for now let us entertain you when we reopen for our 125th season on the 12th April.'
Just a bit of tabloid fodder, nothing else in it really!
