Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Trains are now on site though still wrapped up.

Nice cattle pen queue too. I appreciate space is at a premium but you think with all the accessibility furore they'd be trying to avoid this.

Loads more photos in the full link below. Does still seem like a lot of work going on, can't see this being open till at least Easter.

To be fair, cattle pen queues perfectly fit in with the fascistic overtones of Paw Patrol.

One does have to wonder if the urban planners of Adventure Bay were moonlighting for the Phalanx. We’re talking about a town where the entire emergency infrastructure is outsourced to a single private entity (a paramilitary youth group, no less!) led by a tech obsessed boy with zero democratic oversight.

The cattle pens are just the final piece of the conditioning. If you’re going to raise a generation to believe that "no job is too big, no pup is too small" to justify the total erosion of the public sector, you might as well start by teaching them to stand in a line and wait for their orders.

This is simply next level world class theme park emersion. Hats off to MMM!

Although I am not the target audience, this area is pretty impressive I think that mainly comes from the fact its all original infrastructure none were present in this area before (I know Jungle Bus is relocated but it was never in this area before), you compare this to the likes of CBeebies Land and Thomas Land which many of the rides were already existing before those areas were rethemed. Could give the park a similar boost to what Peppa Pig World did for Paultons.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but with regard to the bolded, weren’t most of the rides and buildings in Thomas Land brand new? Granted, it replaced an existing area of Drayton Manor, so there may have been some reuse, but I was under the impression that Thomas Land was mostly brand new stuff.

I’m not sure the situation is quite the same myself.

I think Paw Patrol (and Minecraft next year) could absolutely give Chessington a boost, but in the case of Peppa Pig, that almost single-handedly elevated Paultons from a relatively minor park to one of the more prominent independents in the country very quickly. Whereas Chessington is already one of the country’s most visited and established major theme parks, and Paw Patrol won’t be having to do that degree of heavy lifting.

Admittedly, it’s not unheard of for already established major parks to have IPs drive an absolutely enormous rise in attendance (Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is probably the most notable example), but I’m not sure Paw Patrol is the sort of brand that will do that on its own, nor Minecraft. I think brands like Harry Potter are quite unique branding sensations in being able to drive that sort of enormous attendance rise on their own.

The front part where Sodor Classic Cars and Lady's Carousel where present before the area exisited.

I think Minecraft can, wouldn't underestimate the size of its fanbase and its longevity

You are correct. Almost all the Robinson's Land (and some of Pirate Cove) attractions were removed to make way for Thomas Land.

If I recall correctly, the only ride that remained is the Vintage Cars. At the time there was a question mark on the fate of the Crazy Bus and Rocking Tug, both of which had models both before and after the change, but Coasterpedia lists these as part exchanged with Zamperla, which would make sense given the highly themed versions that operate today. Also, not to forget, I think I'm right in thinking that Thomas used the existing train track, but the engines were all new.

So Thomas Land's line-up had one retheme, two part exchanges and nine brand-new attractions. Which I think also demonstrates the different scales of these projects. Paw Patrol is rather small scale when compared with Thomas Land (as well as Peppa Pig), which seems like quite a dangerous decision for Merlin, given that CWOA is a bigger park.

It is also notable, that of the five attractions in Paw Patrol, four of those had equivalents in Thomas Land one opening day back in 2008. Which is a shame that Merlin therefore don't feel like they are breaking much in the way of new ground, outside the Zuma hovercraft ride.

Thats got to be one of the worst looking queue lines in the UK? Rita has a bad cattlepen but that Paw Patrol one looks bleak.

Maybe its the wooden fencing vs metal that makes Dragon Fury look a little better?
I think the metal looks far better, it looks far more open, and 'breathable' compared to the essentially solid wood fencing you find at a lot of merlin parks which only have small slivers you can see through making it feel quite claustrophobic.

imo it depends on how these queues are used, it looks as though there is a very direct section of the queue which could skip all of the cattle pen's, and depending on how the cattle pens are set up (we only have the posts for now) it could be much better when it isn't rammed (for instance, if they had a setup similar to 13 but more compact in a cattle pen where sections of the queue can be cut off to make small loops making it feel less cramped. it could also be a mandated cattle pen which would be terrible.

I think it would have been much better to have this queue indoors (there is some fire safety concerns, but I am sure it can be worked around) and have them in this paw patrol base (I haven't watched the show so IDK how relevant it is) with some rooms they may know (perhaps a command room style thing informing them of their "mission", along with a nice amount of theming
