Chessington World of Adventures Resort

Even if they could operate with about 60% of rides open over winter there would be enough to make it worth a day out.

I might be misremembering but I’m sure either Winter 21 or 22 they had Vampire open at Xmas. If so in theory they could already run almost everything bar the water rides.

January and February would probably still be a struggle though as they’re typically colder months and I just can’t see the demand being there to warrant it. Even Legoland only opens for February half term.

I think Universal will be the only 365 park in the UK but certainly can see Chessington matching Legoland.

I imagine in the next 5 years or so most of the animals will have been relocated so there are several large plots for potential expansion.
I'd happily take one of the Racoons.

Chessington could be unrecognisable in 10 years time. There's a lot of space to use if they're closing the animal areas. It's a bit of a sleeping giant in that respect - they've already got a perfect location for a theme park to attract as many visitors as possible. If they really invest to compete with Universal they've got plenty of space to maximise that potential.

I may have imagined it, but didn't the Trail of the King's area get earmarked as a potential Minecraft spot? They might be looking at that area next, or for an upcoming project.
You're right

Trail of the Kings and the combined site of Tiger Rock and Wild Asia were both alternative options for the site of Project Refresh and Renew.

I can certainly imagine Trail of the Kings being a redevelopment project long term

Interesting that vampire has ran over the winter period. Obviously I wasn't considering the coasters but it would be good if they could.

The IPs will be a game changer and I feel like this is why the likes of Disney and Universal can draw crowds during January and February. If merlin are learning from this and that's why they are going down the big IP investments then 365 day opening could be the aim. There will always be people looking for that immersion into their favourite characters.

My knowledge of chessingtons history isn't that great but I feel like land of the dragons could offer the next opportunity. Dragon's fury is broken down at least 12 times a day, the soft play is very dated, canopy capers is falling apart, sea dragons and griffin's galleon don't add much value plus the toilets being a mess with access. Obviously land of the tiger is a bigger area though and whilst tomb blaster and tiger rock are great unique rides it seems like the park dont want to look after them, especially Tiger rock.

I wonder if Chessington will ultimately be world of the IPs in the future. They already have Julia Donaldson, CoComelon, Elmer, Minecraft, jumaji, paw patrol and animal crossing (sort of).

I very much agree on Land of the Dragons and surrounding area

We've got:
  • Dragon's Fury which is unreliable and low capacity
  • Dragon's Playhouse which is in need of an update
  • Griffin's Galleon which is identical to Trawler Trouble
  • Sea Dragons is something they may be able to retain as it's unique within the park
  • Canopy Capers is almost identical to Amazu
Plus in addition, we have in the surrounding area
  • Elmer's Flying Jumbos which could be reaching the end of it's service life
  • Tiny Truckers which is also similarly aging
  • Rattlesnake which is unreliable, rough, in need of a refurbishment and is a 1.4m ride that should be at 1.2m - I believe it's the restraints that make it 1.4m.
  • The arena which could be real estate for development and relocation.
  • The old Safari Skyway station which hasn't been used in years.
Both areas combined offer a potential prime redevelopment in the middle of the park.

Mandrill definitely can and you’d presume the next two coasters will be built to operate if that’s the plan (especially as one is mostly indoors).

Don’t believe Fury or Rattlesnake have but as mentioned they struggle to operate any season and are surely not long for this world.
