Christmas 2021: Christmas Markets

Looks like Duel isn't included on that map either interestingly.

It would be £60 for us to go to a Christmas market + lights trail so it's a no from us this time, but a lovely idea to hopefully expand on in the future, especially if they can add a couple more indoor attractions at some point.

Duel is the only indoor attraction not included, although they have swapped it with Hex in previous years. Hex, Gangsta Granny and Sharkbait Reef by Sealife will all be open. :)

That's a good point actually. Just got to hope Hex doesn't break again then. :p:oops:
On the plus side, that gives them loads of time to do work on Duel (unlikely I know).

Also with the pricing it would be a similar cost to go to a Christmas market and light trail anywhere else, I think there are some light trails that are a bit cheaper than Lightopia but still in the £15-20 range now.

And allegedly it is the longest light trail in the UK they're doing, so you could argue the little extra is justified and is in line with those cheaper prices.
 
Sorry if someone has already asked this, but does anyone know what the capacity is going to be like for the Christmas event? I’m wondering of coming down with the kids (3 and 6), so was wondering how busy CBeebies is likely to be?

Considering that there won't be many rides open and the event is more aimed at children, I'd expect Cebeebies Land to be very busy no matter what the park capacity is.
 
Usually the Christmas event is fairly quiet, but it’s hard to tell this year as day guests are allowed in (usually it’s hotel guests only) and last year with covid the park was much quieter than normal.

However with the park being open till 8pm, I imagine I will be very quiet for rides later on during the day.

Capacity is only capped at about 6-7,000 I believe over Christmas, so I can't imagine it being too busy.
 
I've been looking through the winter event and I'm surprised there's no mention of Furchester Hotel and Mr Bloom's Allotment especially since the former is fully indoors, have they just forgotten to mention them or is there more to this?

Very strange perhaps they are getting an over hall for next year?

But the said attractions are indoors and so that shouldn't really make any difference. Considering they are indoors you'd think the park would want them open during there winter event. I agree with @Thameslink Rail that it is rather odd.

Oh totally. It’s just a very last minute announcement 15mins before the opening time.

Not sure if Towers are impacted by this power issue, but if so it could mean having to close all day.

 
I'd say it is pretty unprofessional to leave it this late in the day to be vaguely communicating with guests. I do sympathize that it's a tricky situation to deal with and that they don't want to lose money, but I think it would have been fairer to the majority of guests to have made a decision one way or another a bit earlier. Plenty of other places made the decision early this morning and made announcements that they were closing for the day so don't bother travelling.

Unfortunately this is standard form for Alton Towers with things like this. They always seem to leave people hanging until the last minute or until it's too late to communicate anything substantial. Obviously in the hope to pinch the last penny. Poor form really. Any responsible business seeing the weather this morning and the local and national issues on social media would have just pulled the plug on today and offered refunds or at least the chance to re-book for another week.

Thing is though, we don't know when the power cut affected Towers, they could've been ready to open after clearing the snow and ice and repairing any wind damage only for the power cut to hit. Or they could've had word from WPD that they'd be back on again within a few hours only to be told otherwise. Looking at pictures from the plaza they have cleared the snow creating paths so someone was there early meaning they had every intention of opening on time. Then there's staff - if they can't get in either due to power cuts and weather conditions in the area then that's an issue too.

If it turns out that they knew all along they weren't opening on time and released the statement then they deserve all the criticism thrown at them but for now until we know for sure I think they should be given the benefit of doubt.
