Pirates of the Caribbean - Paris
Some of this has been briefly mentioned in other threads but mostly seems to of been completely ignored on these forums so here we go.....

Even as a massive Disneyland Paris fan its been obvious for a while the park needed a lot of work to bring it up to standard, well thankfully it seems Disney have noticed that too, launching an improvement program codenamed: Project Sparkle! As with anything DLP announce it should be taken with a pinch of salt until each section actually happens but they seem to be off to a great start!

The improvement program will be mainly based around 10 attractions and their surrounding areas but it also being accompanied by lots of improvements around the park. The attractions mentioned are The ten attractions are: Space Mountain, Videopolis Stage, Its a Small World, Big Thunder Mountain, La Cabane des Robinson, Peter Pan's Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Animagique, Studio Tram Tour and Star Tours. Below is what the official press releases have to say about each attraction.

First unveiled on May 31, 1995 and reimagined to Space Mountain: Mission 2 in 2005, this attraction has undergone extensive renovations over the past few months. Stage one will be completed by July 27, 2015.

The iconic mountain in Discoveryland will soon have a few exciting changes: the huge roof, cornice, imposing catapult and emblematic Columbiad are to be restored along with a number of decorative elements (wall paintings, banners and control towers, etc.).

The renovation will focus on three aspects:

  • Accessibility: new access counters for Light Speed Photography.
  • Safety: all internal stairs revamped.
  • Efficiency: all existing lighting replaced by LEDs and a Single Rider queue introduced for better Guest flow.
The renovation work will also impact the Nautilus and its lagoon. The lagoon will be emptied, cleaned and repainted along with restoring the swirling water effects.

There are more surprises in store: new vehicles will arrive in 2017 – re-designed in terms of ergonomics and technology – for an even more immersive experience!
A new and gigantic airship terminal accommodating the Café Hyperion and Videopolis will be unveiled this July, when Jedi Training Academy, a new interactive show open its doors to the public.
Celebrating children throughout the world with an international tour of singing and fun, Fantasyland’s delightful musical boat tour – hosted by the children of the world – is closing for a makeover in August 2015 and will be re-opening at the end of December.

With its classic anthem to world peace and its artfully costumed dolls representing the peoples of the world, “it’s a small world” is one of the most popular attractions at Disneyland Paris. Paying true homage to the union of cultures, a subject dear to Walt Disney, this attraction will be receiving a major facelift starting in August. Some of the work to be done includes a new façade color palate, all new dolls and costumes, a re-mastered musical score, and some new surprises- all to bring new magic to the adventure!
The main attraction of Frontierland and much loved by our Guests, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing at the end of the year for an amazing reimagining while unveiling new surprises for Guests climbing on board its wagons. For the first time in its history, this iconic attraction is set to undergo major refurbishment at the end of 2015, aimed at bringing new magic to our Guests including an explosive surprise!
The Swiss family Robinson Tree House will be undergoing a major renovation starting early 2016 until the second semester.

The Swiss Family Robinson Tree House was built in the branches of a majestic banyan tree by the Robinson family after they were shipwrecked on an island. The work will focus on restoring the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House to its original décor. This will include new paint, horticulture, effects and the renovation the waterfalls.
Adored by dreamers of all ages, Peter Pan’s Flight takes us to Never Land over the rooftops of London. The fairy-tale journey is to be suspended for a while, but will be back in a few months’ time, offering an even more magical experience.

The Never Land adventure has 11 scenes directly inspired by the Disney classic, ranging from the children’s nursery in the Darling’s home to Captain Hook’s galleon to a flight over the city of London and the island of Never Land with its sparkling lagoons and Skull Rock. The whole voyage will have a make-over, including a fresh color palate and revamped lighting. The London scene will look even more amazing than we remember!
Pirates of the Caribbean is a true Disney Park classic, taking Guests on a thrilling voyage with a crew of swashbuckling pirates. This attraction will be undergoing major reimagining work during the first half of 2017. The changes will bring the Guests a more immersive experience.

To make the experience even more fantastic, Captain Jack Sparrow will join the attraction along with a few surprise characters. The whole pirate crew will be brought back to life with new lighting and re-mastered audio. New effects – mainly for the hurricane scenes and treasure room – will be added for a totally immersive experience.
This much-beloved blacklight theatre attraction located in the Walt Disney Studios Park at the entrance of Toon Studio, will be completely re-imagined to deliver a brand new and even more enchanting experience.
This attraction makes you board a high-tech tram, with the voice of Jeremy Irons guiding you around the magic of Walt Disney Studios Park, with the visit of full-scale movie sets. 3 new scenes will be unveiled to deliver even more Disney magic.
The epic flight to the forest moon of Endor will be re-imagined and full of amazing surprises for a new thrilling experience.

Sooo.... that narrows down to:
2 New Shows - Jedi Academy and a new Animagique

2 Fully Refreshed Rollercoasters - Space Mountain with new trains, effects and repaint, Big Thunder with a full repaint and "Explosive Ending" probably similar to this

2 Updated Dark Rides - Pirates to gain new animatronics system and movie based characters and IASW having new audio, new dolls and possibly Disney Characters integrated as seen on some of the other versions.

2 Other Attractions Updated - Swiss Family Treehouse refresh including working water system, Tram Tour with new sets and props.

1 New Ride - Star Tours 2, its unfair to call this a refurb really, its an entirely new ride system with random films as seen in Florida and California.

I'll be posting a progress update post in a hour or so as they have already got started on afew of these and more improvments!

Okay a quick rundown of what has been happening!

Scaffolding for Space Mountain and Hyperion has now been and gone!

Jedi Academy is now showing on the new set and is getting excellent reviews, DLP have also taken this opportunity to add new disabled seating as well as a massive scale repaint inside and out.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/619900791789342720

Cafe Hyperion was also included in the repaint and now has a Star Wars themed menu to fit with the show it shares its building with. Se link for Vader and Jedi burgers!
https://twitter.com/ED92live/status/619898059825246208

Space Mountain has had a similar full repaint on the outside and station as well as a cleanup of the nautilus lagoon, it was given a soft reopening yesterday external effects seemed to be all turned off, not sure if this was just because it wasn't "officially" open, hopefully we will see all those back when it properly opens later this week.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/623158687960576000
A single rider queue has also been built behind the cannon and utilizing the upstairs space of the station, as of yet this isn't operational so time will tell how successful it is.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/623160989308071936
It will apparently be closing again in the next year or so for the internal refurbishment including the new trains!

Discoveryland Theatre - A nice extra addition, this used to hold Captain EO and Honey I Shrunk movies at various times in its life, it appears to have been given a quick tidy up to allow it to be used as an extra venue, this has been added to park information boards and is currently been used to show a 3d preview of the new Antman Movie. Whilst nothing special its nice to see it not just sat there unused.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/614816933133877248

Meet and Greet! - Merida from Brave has now got a brand new themed meeting point near the cowboy cookout barbeque.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/616999208940367872

Selfie Sticks - Are now banned across the park! Yay!
https://twitter.com/ED92live/status/616150542520352768

Dreams - Despite just getting her own meeting point Merida has been axed from Disney Dreams, the inevitable has happened and she has now been replaced year round by a singing ice queen.... please for the love of mickey, let it go.
On the subject of Dreams they seem to be making even more effort to hide the effects during the day with the latest replacement of the fire effects.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/623456747416588288

Dumbo's brown river - The rivers throughout fantasy land have been fully drained, painted and refilled and have changed from a murky brown to....... very bright...
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/622450744675958784
including a repaint of Dumbo's waterfall so its looking as good as new!

Starbucks - Heres an update for Astrodan.... Starbucks in Disney Village is closed for refurbishment, presumably this means a refurb of the decor and the removal of graffiti wall!

Smmmoookkkkeeerrrssss! Smokers get all the nice things... apparently, including a brand new themed smoking shelter in Fantasyland... wait... they themed a smoking shelter???
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/622744510750150656

We have a king! The sword has been removed from the stone in Fantasyland, though apparently the new king is also good at painting as the surrounding area is all currently getting a refresh.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/623447009874300928

Hydrator Zones have been added around the park during recent hot weather, I love these things so this makes me very happy!
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/617028351526596609

Resurfacing - New themed paving stones have been slowly creeping across the park for afew years now replacing the old cracked concrete, this is still continuing having recently appeared in the Adventure Land Bazaar and behind Space Mountain.

Repainting - Approximately half of the mainstreet buildings have been repainted from top to bottom, with work is still currently taking place to complete all the street. Full repaints of buildings are also currently taking part in Frontierland, Fantasyland and Adventureland!!

Sadly despite all this is seems all this recent refurbishment is just too late for some items suchs as the Mark Twain boats which is currently looking beyond repair in its dry dock..
https://twitter.com/news_tdr/status/623467190289829889
and the castle itself that despite a huge refurb 5 years ago is again looking very sad in places.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/623510536202919936

Hopefully they will keep on top of these new things they are fixing so they wont just go straight back to falling apart.

The Davy Crockett Ranch accommodation has just got a new welcome area and reception:

https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624306092663672833

With a new bar apparently coming very soon.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624306911148544000

And a new car park to complete the arrival experience!
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624323775803207680

Speaking of welcomes..... the brand new resort entrance gates on the plaza have now been lit.....mostly.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624326327936495616

When I tried to tell many of these Disneyland Paris fans that the park needed a rebirth a few years back I was given short shrift.

I am glad bosses at the resort finally realised and the park will hopefully look wonderful for 2017!

:D

There was no denying there was work to be done to make the park as good as it could be but its never been a bad park by any stretch.

Anyway.... latest news:

Le Carrousel de Lancelot has reopened after a longish refurb and is looking lovely!

Its had new control booths, complete with stained glass windows
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624640573132144640

The floor around the ride has been raised so there is no longer any step up to the ride
before - http://i.ytimg.com/vi/iULeTesMtQE/maxresdefault.jpg
after - https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624639844174692353

And... slightly strangely...one side is now completely surrounded by bushes, not sure on that one!?
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624640196911493120

The frontierland sign and flaming torches have gone missing!
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624636500240678912
presumably they will return soon looking better than ever

Discoveryland is now fully open again (for now, until Star Tours closes soon!)
Space Mountain has a new entrance cabin and signage which has 'SM' logos rather than the incorrect 'DM' (Discovery Mountain) logos which had been there since opening. Whilst this is technically an improvement, from a geeky point of view its also sad to see the remaining 'DM' traces be eliminated.
https://twitter.com/InsideDLParis/status/624845943985283072

Buzz Lightyear's Pizza Planet has also reopened, no idea if there has been any improvements in there yet but lets hope so!

And with all this back open, good bye to It's a Small World... for now.
The ride is now surrounded by construction fences and will be closed until 18th December!

The best improvement I can think of for this would be a nice fire to destroy it. One of the most depressing places in any theme park I've been to!

Great to see all of these improvements around the park. I look forward to returning once most of it is done in 2017.

:)

Thanks for all the Updates, this is my favourite thread to see getting any updates :)

Any news on when Star Wars upgrade will start and finish?

Ian

The latest closure schedule that I've seen is:
program-board-EEP_v6.jpg

http://holidays.disneylandparis.co.uk/eep.html

Which pins Star Tours as closing late Feb 2016 and will apparently open as Star Tours 2 in early 2017.

Interesting to note that Animagique has been removed from this schedule despite being included in earlier published schedules and the announcement.

Whilst any improvements are good news, it's a shame there's nothing drastic being done with Ney Vilage, it's atrocious. And why on earth is money still being poured into the Studio Tram Tour?

^ Yeah that seems a strange one. Isn't it being moved back to make way for the "real" Hollywood Boulevard? So why spend money on it now?

And that new railing surrounding the Carousel looks lovely.....not. what were they thinking?!

There was talk of props located on the Florida Hollywood Studios tram tour that closed almost a year ago being relocated to Paris, so I think they might be trying to add small things. But personally I think a tram tour only works if it is a real working studio!

It also shocks me that nothing has been mentioned for Disney Village. It is awful.

^ How is it awful though?

It might seem a little dated (though theyve clearly been working on that), but it's just a smaller version of Downtown Disney really.

@AstroDan, I think it's time for you to dig out that picture of yours showing the inside of Ney Village Starbucks again, don't you? ;)

^ How is it awful though?

It's a depressing, tacky and overpriced concrete pit of an area whose only saving grace is Earl of Sandwich. I realise they want to get the main park looking good for their 25th anniversary bash, but if it hadn't been for that really I'd have thought 'Ney Village' and Studios needed serious improvements more urgently.

I know that Disney do parks in a very different way to most operators (Efteling perhaps come the closest to bridging the gap between the Disney and 'everyone else' approaches) and DLP will doubtless remain a huge draw for families that seem more interested in procuring princess outfits and mouse tat than actually riding things, but for people visiting it for the theme park it is I still don't know whether these plans can elevate it to the same relaxed high quality level as its competitors across Europe. Refurbishments of what they have are great to see, long overdue and all very well, but I really don't think the overall standard of rides compares well to other European parks, and I'd like to see new attractions added to both address this and increase capacity.

DLP was the park I enjoyed the least on last year's Junket trip by far, even compared to the smaller ones like Nigloland and Tripsdrill. It wasn't much better between Christmas and New Year either. I'm sure the tone of this post reflects those visits! I'd really like to be able to go back in a couple of years and say afterwards that I had a significantly better visit, but I'm yet to be convinced that I'll find much to improve my views on the place beyond better presentation. We'll have to see how it turns out I suppose!

Both Downtown Disney areas in the US are fantastic. They are clean, and there is plenty going on to draw people in. You don't necessarily feel like you are inside a Disney park, but you still feel that every effort has been nee to make that aspect of the resort special and welcoming.

Disney Village is embarrassing

@Cheese, Alot of people are never going to like Disneyland Paris to be fair, DLP are never going to install the same kind of major rides as other theme parks, its just not what they do.

Fully agree with most of the opinions on Disney Village as an external area, its worn, dated, lifeless and really hope its high on their priorities after 2017! Saying that.... I don't feel the actual content once you are inside most of buildings is bad at all:
World Of Disney - Lovely store, could maybe do with being slightly bigger as it feels crowded at times but the look and style are great and upkeep is spot on.
http://dedicatedtodlp.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/wod04.jpg
Buffalo Bills - Okay its a little pricey but where else in Europe can you get a dinner show quite like this? Cowboys on horses with stagecoaches, audience interaction and bison!!! (with a little Disney thrown in for good measure)
http://cdn1.dlp-media.com/resize/mw...ges/n014830_2050jan01_wild-west-show_16-9.jpg
Starbucks - Once graffiti wall has been covered.... which it apparently has this is a great little starbucks, style is nice and its priced pretty much as you would expect.
Lego Store - Okay... this place is awesome, I want the massive sorcerer Mickey and Buzz....and woody.... and the dragon... and everything!!!!
Art of Disney - Some superb quality stuff in here, I always go in for a browse, some genuine works of art alongside arty gift and the "On Demand" reproductions of Disney art and attraction posters.... a geeks heaven
Disney Fashion - Okay not for me but you try telling any young girl this is a bad shop... they will kill you! Looks nice aswell since its refurb last year.
Rainforest Cafe - Could do with some new animatronics but inside is actually quite a nice little restaurant.
Steakhouse - Never been in myself but only heard good things and oh yeah it looks pretty inside...
http://cdn1.dlp-media.com/resize/mw...ges/n018884_2050jan01_the-steakhouse_16-9.jpg
Cafe Mickey - Character dining, nice restaurant, stupidly popular!
Billy Bobs - Live music most nights, line dancing, beer... sorted
Earl Of Sandwich - Delicious sandiwches, well priced (for a themepark) and a nice modern store.
IMAX Cinema - Does what is says on the tin & holds Disney premiers

Its just a shame all this awesome looks like this on the outside...
Disney%20Village%2005.jpg

Placemaking fail :(

There are also a couple of lowpoints I feel I must mention that really need addressing:

Planet Hollywood - This place is crap and dated inside and out, desperately needs a massive refurb!
Mc Donads - Or however its spelt outside these days... its crap, sells crap, service is crap, looks crap.
King Ludwigs - I feel sad putting this on the lowpoints list, this used to be my favourite restaurant in the village, but then it changed to more of a bar, the food prices went up and the quality/variety went down. Still looks good inside but a shadow of its former self.
