Drayton Manor Park

This the same lad who confidently confirmed SW6 was a B&M?
It wasn’t, actually. Wasn’t that Shawn Sanbrooke on his old channel Sanbrooke Productions, or am I misremembering what I once heard someone say?

This is a different person, Coaster Chall, who has an inside source within Drayton Manor. And while he may not have been right every single time he’s done a prediction (I’m not 100% sure there), Chall’s Drayton source has been practically 100% accurate thus far, seemingly predicting both Adventure Cove and this area correctly down to the most minute details.

I stand corrected!
For clarity, I’m not 100% certain that it was Sanbrooke who said it, but it definitely wasn’t Chall. His YouTube channel was only established within the last couple of years, from what I can gather, and I think he’s not much older than I am. And when Thirteen was being built, I was 6, SW6 was a London postcode and B&M was a discount supermarket chain!

But I do definitely seem to remember someone telling me that Sanbrooke confidently predicted Thirteen would be a B&M throughout the construction phase.

The late 2000s were certainly a different time, from having read Thirteen’s construction thread over on CoasterForce; on the first page, people were saying they’d get a perm if it wasn’t a Premier Rides or Vekoma coaster! And someone else said that their uncle worked for Merlin and had told them it was a Gerstlauer like Saw!

I bet Shawn already agreed to do 3 or 4 construction updates on the new area like he did for the Advantage Cove area. His only belief spoke about it in 1 of his videos but Coaster Chall and Lift hills and thrills have done most of the ad work for the new area. I wonder if there will be a new entrance area built if they keeping the other entrance.

Random question but wondered if anyone knew. What went wrong with Cartoon Network Street? Does anyone know what the disagreements were about?

The Ben 10 investment didn't work out so the whole thing was binned. The timing was bizarre to be honest, by the time the thing opened Ben 10 was already an off-boil brand. I expect they had hoped it'd be the next Thomasland but they should have chosen a more evergreen brand from Turner, possibly Scooby Doo or something.

Interesting because the whole concept sounded sensible if the rumoured retheme of Apocalypse to Dexter's Laboratory and Haunting to Scooby Doo with Cartoon Network Street I can see how it could have been a well themed area to target slightly older children to Thomas Land and be a way to unify the attractions in that area.

They did show some Cartoon Network movies in the 4D cinema. I remember watching marvin the martian in there. Colin Bryan had plans drawn up for Scooby Doo to take over the haunting but they decided to invest in Thomas land instead.

My daughter watches Cartoon Network and the rubbish on there now is shocking anyway back on topic. I’m glad the looping group have decided to keep to original themes for there new areas as it’s so easy to have IP’s in the parks.

It's hard to know how much Cartoon Network Street was a cause of their problems, and how much it's a symptom. Ben 10 probably isn't as good a brand as Thomas, and Thomas has the advantage that many parents also feel nostalgia for it. At the same time Thomasland was a much bigger investment than the Ben 10 coaster. It's not like Icon, where you could argue that it should have had a big impact. I know the queue was quite well themed, but it was clearly built on quite a tight budget. Any atmosphere built up in the queue melted away as soon as you got to the station, and the outside of the ride was a lot of corrugated sheds (I have no idea if this resembles something in the TV show).

I'm not saying they should have spent more on it. Presumably they couldn't. But Ben 10 was clearly a step down from the previous 'big investments' like Storm Force 10, Excalibur, G Force etc. For that kind of budget they were never going to get a big impact ride.
