Drayton Manor Park

I was on Malestrom when it suddenly broke, and I was surprised to see the operator write something (presumably a fault record) on paper instead of entering it into a computer

But most of Drayton Manor's operating procedures are terrible, and so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised

This is the same procedure when I worked at towers unless it’s changed.

You write down what time you went “down” and what the error code message is on the paper work, and then when it’s fixed Techies right in there section/box the issue & remedy used to fix

The big difference is even if your a rubbish collector or even a basic ride op the wages are the same so let’s say when you start your new job you want to impress your supervisors how quick you can load and check a ride then after a month you learn that even if u take 5 mins or even 10 mins etc you are still earning the minimum wage with the only chance to earn more is becoming a area supervisor or part of the maintenance team.
The only ride they got spot on is Accelerator

I think they really need to invest in some good opperations, I have heard for years about how poor the opps are at drayton, and if they don't stop this I think people will eventually stop comming or be turned away due to the low capacity....
Poor operations since 1995, yet people still seem to be turning up on a regular basis, they keep coming.

And they rarely if ever turn people away with money...they tend to put up park full notices online, but keep taking cash (with crowd warnings) on the gate when people turn up.

Large fences for the school trip queuejumpers...which has also gone on for more than thirty years...they look awful, and not really worth the cost for a couple of weeks a year.

Just shoot 'em.

The park already collects hourly throughput numbers for all major rides. It's not an automated system - numbers are simply logged on paper by ride staff but I have no idea what the park actually does with the information.
from what I know merlin have an automated system for this, and paper can quite easily be innaccurate or manipulated (althouhg I guess the ride could give a number of dispatches similar to the odometer in your car, which could work)

paper is far better for error reporting and tech logs, it ensures there is a paper trail, it is easy to flick through and refernce past problems, ensures the data is only in one place, is convieniant to access (no booting required), etc

some of this could be done by computers but if the server goes down, hard drive is corrupted, etc you could end up being unable to opperate the rides for at least a while (rides aren't often connected to any networks, so wouldn't be affected as long as they have power)

The airline industry despite being very advanced and having the ability to do so easily with stuff such as electronic flight bags paper Tech logs are still used

Alton towers and thorpe park manage to do so, when they are paying arround the same, it is a managment issue not worker issue.

Not good. 2 coasters valleying so soon after a troubled opening makes me wonder whether it is a problem with understaffed (or inadequately trained) maintenance crew?

Or maybe not enough money for new parts etc?

I know Gold Rush has rolled back at least once before, but I'm not sure if Accelerator ever has

Valleying has little to do with maitanence (most of the time) and is usually because the coaster was opperating without enough balast, in too high winds, in too cold temperature or some of a combination of those points.
