Europa park visit September 2013

This was our first ever visit to Europa park. We decided to go on what people on this forum had been saying about it.

Myself, my wife Carla and her brother Lee went to stay in EP in hotel Bell Rock for 3 nights.

We booked an economy room as it was the cheapest option for us. But also there was a 20% discount on the price because it was a special offer.

When deciding where to fly from I found out that it is possible to fly from London city airport to Basel. We have never flown from LCY before and as it was only about £10 more expensive.

Its a lovely little airport, it took us about 10 mins to walk from the travelodge to the airport terminal. To do the bag drop off and get through security it took us about 10 mins. So quick and easy! Its very nice inside and there is a great view of the runway and airfield operations.

We were almost the 3 worst dressed people in the airport but thankfully we did get beaten to that title. The airport is 99% business people so there are lots of suits there.

The flight was quick and easy, only 1 hour 10 mins. ;D

LEGROOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!

Getting off at Basel was easy and quick. We had booked a transfer from the airport to EP, the guy was waiting for us with a sign with my name, he was hoping that it was Lukas Podolski. But no such luck. The taxi driver did not speak much English and we don't speak much German but we did manage to communicate about things ok.

Checking into Bell Rock was great, very easy and the hotel is amazing. The guy that checked us in helped us sort out our park tickets as we had ordered 2 day tickets and just planned to get the after 2pm tickets. But he told us getting 3 day tickets would cost the same and we could go into the park right away. It was about 12:30 when we checked in.

We left our luggage in the left luggage room and headed off.

The park is amazing. It is so clean and tidy. I hardly saw any litter during our time there. All the bathrooms are spotless, there are often people in there cleaning. The themeing is stunning. All the areas are well themed and they blend well into each other.

I will leave reviewing the rides for another time as our first visit was only a few hours really.

When we got back to the hotel we collected our luggage and our room key cards and headed up to the room.

It was a lovely room on the first floor. Clean and tidy and everything was lovely. So much attention to detail.

The boat bunkbeds that are big enough for an adult. Also the sliding room divider that allows you to watch someone have a shower

Unfortunately Lee was not very well so he stayed in the room while Carla and I went to Harbourside for a meal.

The food was very good. I found some lovely steak on the African grill part. All the food was really nice and it was not too bad for 30euros a person.

Again the decorations in the restaurant were amazing! Just stuff everywhere! Its stunning.

Meeting the captain on the way out, saluting with my left hand feel horrible, its not right!!

That was it for the first day. I will do some more when I have the time.

The captain is such a photo whore! :D

Great review so far, look forward to reading the rest :)

As Matt says, that Captain is indeed a photo whore! I guess the view from you room is why it was an Economy room?

Cannot wait to read more!

:)

Indeed it was just because of the view. I was surprised how big the room was for being an economy. I was imagining something out of the Blues Brothers :p

I will hopefully do some more tonight as I should have some free time.

At least you know how to salute properly. I cringe whenever I see people salute the American way. (I'm looking at YOU, Carla.)

I have been a bit lazy over the last couple of days and not done anything here.

Our first full day in the park started off with breakfast in the Harbourside restaurant. Its a buffet breakfast and there is tons of choice. The normal cold meat and cheeses, hot fried breakfast, fruits and yoghurts, pancakes and lots of other stuff.

By the time we were ready to head into the park it was about 9am so we did not get in for the 30 mins early ride time.

Carla and Lee started off on one of the little rides in Spain, Columbus dinghy. I got a few photos while they were on there.

Our next stop was to the alpine coaster, after a small wrong turn and a walk through the magic world of diamonds. This was a surprise, it was very nicely done, everything looked good and it was all really well kept. It reminded me a lot of fraggle rock. It was nice to see the Alpine express go through there and the log flume also go through the same area.

Next was the Alpine coaster. This was a nice little. All the decoration on and around the ride was great, the station was nice and clean and it was a good fun ride. I do enjoy these sort of rides, they are always good for a laugh and normally don't have any queues. :)

The Alpine express station.

The next ride round was the wave swinger. Normal sort of thing, good fun and it felt a bit faster than others we had been on.

When then walked through the enchanted forest area, Its all kids stuff and lots of fairy tails, but like the rest of the park it is nicely kept and everything seems to work. Even the donkey that fires a small plastic coin out of its mouth.

Getting ready for Halloween.

We had a quick peak at the new ride they are building. Its nice that its not totally blocked off and impossible to see.

There was a Milka stand which was doing a ring toss. There were 4 different Milka stands around the park and if you did the task at each stand at the end you got a free bar of Milka! :p
So we started the trail there.

Our next stop was the EP story under food loop. We were the only 3 people in there and it was (obviously) all in German but it did not stop us enjoying the show and it does show you a lot of history about the park and how it has grown. It only takes about 5 mins so it is worth a look.

We did the petrol cars and then headed over to Silver Star for a few rides. On the way we found Pegasus and had a ride on that. It was a good little ride, a lot like flight of the Hippogriff in Orlando.

When we got over to Silver Star we did it 3 times and also bought some stuff from the shop that we got sent back to the hotel.

I really love this ride, great airtime and felt smooth. I found towards the middle and back was best as it gave the best airtime. I really like the bit near the end where you hit the breaks and you can just see the train in front just disappear. It is one of my favourite rides in the park, great fun to ride and the seats and restraints and nice and comfortable.

We then headed off to find the Chinese acrobat show which was in the Bamboo Baai restaurant. We stood in there and watched the show. It was very good and the acrobats are very skilled.
I loved the fact that the pirates in Batavia goes through the restaurant.

After this as we were nice and close our next stop was...

FOODLOOP!

I can't really say anything that has not been said about FoodLoop. It is great fun, a novel way to get food delivered. There was no queue when we got there. We were seated upstairs. We got a nice view of the restaurant. The menu is ok. Its not the most impressive choice of food but compared to most UK parks its a good selection.

When we came out there was a big queue for it, stretching down the bridge.

After lunch we did the Matterhorn a couple of times and Carla and Lee did the planes that is right next door. I really like the matterhorn, a cleaver lift hill :) also the ride does not seem to want to do damage to your kidneys like most rides like this do.

As we headed back to Russia to do Euro Mir we caught the EP parade. It was ok, lots of different floats.

We did Euro Mir a couple of times. Its an odd ride. I enjoy it, its good fun and I like the lift hill. Its good that you can end up going backwards.

UV glowing nail varnish.

We had a look through the Mir space station training modules that they have there.

We did this on our first half day in the park! Not a lot too it but still its a nice little ride especially for kids.

After this we headed to go on Bluefire and Wodan. On the way we did the Teacups, Pirates in Batavia and the pirate ship.

We did a couple of rides on Blue fire. I love this ride, nice and smooth, the launch is lovely. Its just keeps going and going. The whole ride is good and I love the rolls that it has in it. I love the heat rate monitors that are built into the seat. :)

I really loved Wodan, its mad really quick and really good fun without being really rough like Gwazi is.

The themeing in the queue is lovely and like the rest of the park its all so clean and tidy. I loved the statues on the station that watch the trains come into and leave the station.

After this we made our way back across the park to the Monorail station in Germany.

On the way we did the African boats, the bob-sleigh. A bit of a mad ride, love it but still amazed that the old H&S brigade have not been at it. Did the planes and Matterhorn again, Pisoden Cassandra and finished off the Milk trail and got a free bar of chocolate each! :D

It was a good first full day in the park.

I am sure there are some bits I have missed out but that is the best I can remember.

Some more pics from the park

Loving the reports!

It's amazing how popular FoodLoop is... even on quieter days. That really has been an absolute goldmine for Europa-Park since it opened in 2011!
