Have they announced the UK act yet? Pretty sure that had already happened by this time last year.

We’re leaving it very late to announce our act aren’t we?

Ignore me, I was silly and didn’t realise it was announced already. Very quiet it was though!

Thing is that it's not been officially confirmed as to who our act is, even though it's an open secret, and has been for some time.

TV listings are reporting that Country group Remember Monday will be representing the UK

This has now been officially confirmed.

Actually a pretty good entry! I hope it goes far!

Unfortunately, at the moment it’s being overshadowed by the “Kant” drama - for those unaware, Malta’s entry (after already being approved by the EBU a month ago) has very suddenly been revoked. The EBU are not stating the reason why, or revealing which broadcaster complained, but it is heavily alleged by various Maltese news outlets that it has came from the BBC on the advice of Ofcom.

Oh dear.

Oh dear.
Yep apparently the Maltese pronunciation of "Kant" sounds very similar to a certain English swear word...

Oops.

I've seen people campaigning online for the UK entry song to be revoked for the word 'hell' (in reaction to the kant drama).

But hey, what's Eurovision without a bit of drama and controversy!

Soon as I heard the Maltese entry I knew it would be incredibly awkward for our dear friends at the BBC to talk about.

Hope she gets to sing it uncensored.

TBH, after last year's fiasco, I'm amazed anyone still touches EV with a barge poll. Wogan had the right idea. Walk away. Don't give the EBU the satisfaction of your anger.

It’s that time yet again! I’ll be reviewing the songs for each semi-final in relation to the running order, with the automatic qualifiers coming afterwards. The automatic qualifiers are performing in full during each semi-final among the other entries, which I don’t actually agree with (I fully agree with them performing in full during each show, for the record – it’s just that my issue is regarding how it’s being done). The automatic qualifiers are performing in the semi-finals in which they’re voting, which makes sense.

Semi-Final 1

01 – Iceland (‘Róa’ by VÆB)🇮🇸
Opening the SF with a banger is always a smart move. The fact it’s in Icelandic will help to add something a little different as well, and while it’s not my thing, I think it has a good market and will appeal to televoters. Has a decent chance of making the final.

02 – Poland (‘Gaja’ by Justyna Steckzowska)🇵🇱
Enchanting song, with some great vocals and choreography from Justyna. Let’s just bear in mind that she’s 52 years old, and she can do all of this at once. Mightily impressive! Unfairly in the ‘slot of death’ in SF1, but don’t let that fool you. I think it’s going to qualify and do well.

03 – Slovenia (‘How Much Time Do We Have Left’ by Klemen)🇸🇮
It’s a slightly bland Balkan ballad. Well-sung, with some interesting staging, but I just worry that after two high-impact songs, it’ll end up getting a bit lost among everything else. Have serious doubts about its chances of qualifying.

04 – Estonia (‘Espresso macchiato’ by Tommy Cash)🇪🇪
Popular with the fans, and it’s easy to see why. Quirky, catchy, and well-performed by Tommy Cash. Estonia do like sending entries with Italian in the lyrics! Might be a bit too divisive for some, but I think it’ll give Estonia a decent result in the final.

05 – Ukraine (‘Bird of Pray’ by Ziferblat)🇺🇦
Ukraine serving excellence once again. How they can come up with such good songs when they’re fighting a war is astonishing. The staging is beautiful, which will help. Perhaps not the best song Ukraine’s sent, but it’s still good, and I’m sure it’ll do well in the final.

06 – Sweden (‘Bara bada bastu’ by KAJ)🇸🇪
Sweden sending a song that’s actually in Swedish? Surely not! Top of the odds, and it’s easy to see why. Catchy, different, well-produced, well-choreographed…This is absolutely getting into the final, and I think it’s surely a candidate for the overall win. Stockholm 2026?

07 – Portugal (‘Deslocado’ by Napa)🇵🇹
Portugal have done well in recent years. On that note…What on earth have they decided to send this year? Dreary, uninspiring, and just a rather boring ballad. Being placed where it is, they’re really going to struggle in getting to the final.

08 – Norway (‘Lighter’ by Kyle Alessandro)🇳🇴
Norway are often underrated, and Kyle Alessandro’s entry this year is no exception. Good vocals, good performance, good staging, good choreography, what’s not to like? Surely has to qualify, and I’m certain it’ll give Norway a solid result once again.

09 – Belgium (‘Strobe Lights’ by Red Sebastian)🇧🇪
Excellent vocals, with some very interesting staging in the Belgian national final. My one concern, as is often the case with Belgium, is that the staging will end up being the downfall in Basel. I think it’s likely to qualify, but I wouldn’t be hugely surprised if it doesn’t.

10 – Azerbaijan (‘Run With U’ by Mamagama)🇦🇿
Azerbaijan have fallen off the wagon in recent years, so how will they do in 2025? It’s at least competently-performed, but my concern is with the staging. This could be make-or-break for their chances – as it stands, I don’t see them in the final.

11 – San Marino (Tutta l’Italia’ by Gabry Ponte)🇸🇲
Previously part of Eiffel 65 (yes, the act behind ‘Blue’), Gabry brings an infectious song that wouldn’t be out of place on the football terraces. The issue I have is that DJs often don’t do well at ESC – looking at you here, Darude. Then again, I suspect it may well qualify.

12 – Albania (‘Zjerm’ by Shkoda Elektronije)🇦🇱
Hypnotic, entrancing, and quite possibly one of Albania’s best entries in years. Having Italy and Switzerland will absolutely help its chances. Very likely to make the final, and dare I say it, but I think it’s looking like a dark horse for the top 10…

13 – Netherlands (‘C’est la vie’ by Claude)🇳🇱
It’s quite a different entry from the Netherlands, particularly with the shift in style from the first chorus onwards and the inclusion of French, but it works. Claude’s vocals are sublime, which helps as well. I think we’re looking at another decent finish for the Dutch.

14 – Croatia (‘Poison Cake’ by Marko Bošnjak)🇭🇷
After the past couple of years with good Croatian entries, I’m not too enamoured by this one. The song’s messy, the various bits are jarring, and they don’t really have any allies in SF1 (other than Slovenia), which isn’t ideal. Sadly, I suspect they won’t be in the final this year.

15 – Cyprus (‘Shh’ by Theo Evan)🇨🇾
Finishing on a banger is always a good idea. Not heard the live vocals from Theo yet, but I’m sure it’ll be fine. The staging will also be intriguing, but this is often one area where Cyprus excel. I’d be very shocked if this didn’t qualify, and I think it’ll be a good result for Cyprus.

Semi-Final 2

01 – Australia (‘Milkshake Man’ by Go-Jo)🇦🇺
It’s a quirky banger that I’m sure will appeal to viewers, and the touch of ‘Greensleeves’ at the start is quite nice to hear. The staging for this will be interesting, I’m sure, but this is a return to form for Australia. We’ll be seeing this in the final, I’m sure.

02 – Montenegro (‘Dobrodošli’ by Nina Žižić)🇲🇪
Of the two Balkan ballads in SF2, this is arguably the better one, with it just feeling like a better package overall. Nina’s back again, having taken part in 2013 for Montenegro. It’s a solidly-performed return to ESC for Montenegro, but I’m just not sure it stands out enough.

03 – Ireland (‘Laika Party’ by Emmy)🇮🇪
A song about a dog who went into space in the 1950s is an…interesting concept. It’s at least catchy and well-performed, but I just think it’s perhaps a bit too weird to do all that well at Eurovision. Kids will likely enjoy it, but for me, it’s a borderline qualifier.

04 – Latvia (‘Bur man laimi’ by Tautumeitas)🇱🇻
Beautiful harmonies, and it feels enchanting with it being sung in Latvian. The staging at the national final was lovely, and should translate well to Basel. I just worry that it’s perhaps a bit too boring to get a good result, which is such a shame!

05 – Armenia (‘Survivor’ by Parg)🇦🇲
Depi Evratesil (Armenia’s national final) returned, and this is what resulted? Erm…OK. It’s a bit shouty, the lyrics seem a little nonsensical in places, and it’s a bit like Imagine Dragons – and not exactly in a good way. Unlikely to qualify for me.

06 – Austria (‘Wasted Love’ by JJ)🇦🇹
Opera has a chequered past at ESC, but will JJ change this? Superb vocals, but my concern is how it’ll be staged. It’s popular in the odds, but I wonder if it’s overrated, and there’s a slightly jarring beat change in the last chorus. Will surely qualify, though, in spite of my worries.

07 – Greece (‘Asterométa’ by Klavdia)🇬🇷
The Greek language in song is just beautiful, and Klavdia does a superb job. The staging is simple, but a song like this doesn’t need anything too elaborate to help sell it. For me, it’s a certain qualifier, and could well get into the top 10.

08 – Lithuania (‘Tavo akys’ by Katarsis)🇱🇹
It’s a slow builder, but it’s well-performed, and the Lithuanian language helps to give it a certain sense of intrigue. Rock doesn’t always do well at Eurovision, but I’ve got a sneaking suspicion this will buck the trend. Likely to qualify for me.

09 – Malta (‘Serving’ by Miriana Conte)🇲🇹
Had a bit of the Streisand Effect when they had to change the name, and you just know the audience will shout the original title! Excellent song once again from Malta, with the performance and staging in the national final being great. Candidate for the top 10.

10 – Georgia (‘Freedom’ by Mariam Shengelia)🇬🇪
Mariam’s vocals are good, but that’s probably the best thing to say about this song. It just feels a bit disjointed, the changes in rhythm don’t work, and if I’m honest, I’m really struggling to come up with anything hugely positive about it. Don’t rate its chances.

11 – Denmark (‘Hallucination’ by Sissal)🇩🇰
Denmark sending something decent? Colour me surprised! Great vocals, really upbeat, and Sissal performs it so well. This might be the best entry Denmark have sent in years. For me, it has to qualify, and I think we’ll be getting a great result for Denmark this year!

12 – Czechia (‘Kiss Kiss Goodbye’ by Adonxs)🇨🇿
Sublime vocals, and the unusual 6/8 rhythm really adds some character. The only downside for me is that it’s slightly ruined by the switch to an upbeat 4/4 towards the end. Having said this, I’m thinking it’s got a good chance of qualifying and a decent result.

13 – Luxembourg (‘La poupée monte le son)🇱🇺
The slight throwback to Luxembourg’s 1965 win is nice. Good vocals and choreography, but I’m slightly worried that the staging might not work. We’ll have to see what happens in Basel. Its chances of qualifying in my view are good.

14 – Israel (‘New Day Will Rise’ by Yuval Raphael)🇮🇱
I struggle with Israel at the moment. It’s well-sung, and I’m sure it’ll qualify. I just don’t like how they’re clearly using ESC for political propaganda purposes – it leaves a sour taste in the mouth, and overshadows the Contest. I do not want a repeat of last year’s behaviour.

15 – Serbia (‘Mila’ by Princ)🇷🇸
The national final in Serbia this year was chaotic to say the least. It’s a Balkan ballad, which just feels a bit shouty in terms of vocals, and it doesn’t really seem to go anywhere. Such a shame from Serbia, who’ve often been pretty good.

16 – Finland (‘Ich komme’ by Erika Vikman)🇫🇮
Great vocals, great performance, great staging. Erika absolutely nails it, and then some! Might need some staging tweaks for Basel, but it’ll be fine. Could well end up winning the whole Contest! Also, the right song to end the SF. How can anything follow on from this?!

Automatic qualifiers
Before we go into the automatic qualifiers, there’s something important to note. The Big Five (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom) are all singing in their native languages for the first time since 2007. Makes it a bit more interesting!

France (‘Maman’ by Louane)🇫🇷
First performance at the Stade de France during half-time of a Six Nations match. Wow. France nailed it. Excellent song, vocals, performance, the lot. The staging will change for Basel, I’m sure, but I’m not worried. Yet another strong entry from France, and a potential winner.

Germany (‘Baller’ by Abor & Tynna)🇩🇪
First wholly German song since 1998? Wow. The national final was bizarre, but at least a good song came out of it, and I’m glad Germany are taking a risk once again. Will it pay off? Well, who knows, but I’d be rather disappointed if it ends up in the bottom 5.

Italy (‘Volevo essere un duro’ by Lucio Corsi)🇮🇹
It feels unusual for Italy to choose a ballad, but it’s quite nice, and a refreshing change of pace. The story behind the song is touching, but I’m not certain how viewers will relate to it. Still, it’s a good entry, and Italy can be proud of themselves once again.

Spain (‘Esa diva’ by Melody)🇪🇸
This wasn’t well-received after Benidormfest, but I think that was unfair. Powerful vocals, catchy song, and it lends itself to some really good choreography in Basel. Will it win? It’s unlikely, if I’m honest, but I still really rather like it.

Switzerland (‘Voyage’ by Zoë Më)🇨🇭
It’s a ballad, but it’s a really nice one that feels so pure in its simplicity. Zoë’s vocals are delightful, and this won't need much in the way of staging so it stands out in Basel. It doesn’t matter how well this does – Switzerland should be really proud of themselves for this entry.

United Kingdom (‘What the Hell Just Happened?’ by Remember Monday)🇬🇧
The UK are sending something atypical this year, but it’s good! The harmonies are stunning, and they can sing live, so no issues there. The only concern is the staging, but I have faith that the BBC will sort it. Mid-table seems realistic, and top half is entirely possible.
