Evacuated Tube Transport

I have seen this info floating about on the internet before and I have watched a few videos about ETT and it seems like a very good idea.

Here a a few videos about it.

Rather than wasting money on the current hi-speed line which lots of NIMBYs are moaning about I think we should be putting money in to something like this. The potential for what could be possible if it works is amazing. Transport would be so quick so efficient and it would make going on holiday a bit less of a drag :) Also due to the smaller construction costs, the fact it can be put underground and that there would be little nois I think the NIMBYs would struggle to find something to complain about it.

I think we need to have the foresight to push ourselves as a whole race forward to see what is possible and to take on the difficult challenges and not just rely on current/old technology.

I think it could do amazing things for our and the global economy if someone was to build one of these ETT lines, just like the Apollo challenge did for America in the 1960s.
I find it a shame that massive amounts of money and people have been wasted on a stupid meaningless war in the middle east. Who knows what we could be travelling about in if all that money and resources had been put in to a project like this!

What does anyone think?
I am not the only one that can think that this looks easily possible and also from loving coasters it could be good fun :) Just think at being able to get to any theme park in the world in not more than a few hours!

Looks like an interesting idea. It'd certainly make going on holiday abroad an easier and quicker job! :p

Have you seen the gravity train that, in theory, can take passengers from one side of the Earth to the other in 42 minutes? :D

I did come across the gravity train when I was looking at this stuff earlier. I thought it was going to be something a lot better than it was. Drilling a hole right through the centre of the Earth. Hardly a great idea.

Haha! Going straight through the middle might not be as easy, but going at an angle like they state in the video may be a little more... sane? :p I trust those that would be put behind either of those projects to create something that would work safely and efficiently though.

Even the angle one seems like a lot more work, cost and difficulty for a similar outcome to the ETT

I love the idea of the ETT transport but the one of digging through the earth is just to far over the top. For instance we don't know what drilling straight through the earth like that would do. The ETT one sounds far more sensible and not that hard to achieve. If I was an investor I know where I would put my money out of the two.

Well I think you can sort of invest in it, there is a company that is starting to do some stuff with regards to ETT.

There is a bit where you can buy a licencee for $100. But it looks like its not actually investing just the ability to sell stuff and things like that if they actually build a ETT near you.
