Fancy helping out on TowersStreet?

As the new season approaches, we’re looking at the possibility of adding some newcomers to the TowersStreet Team. Over the years, real life has got in the way for a lot of us, meaning we can’t dedicate as much time as we’d like to the site. So we’re looking at building a list of people who are interested in helping out on the site.

If you’re interested, we simply ask that:
  • You‘re over 18
  • You have some sort of post history on the forum
  • Can spare a sensible amount of time moderating the forum or working on website content
We’re not looking for a full application process at present, we’re just looking to hear from anyone who is interested. We’ll then use that list in future as and when we decide on future roles. There’s a short Google Form to complete below if you’d like to put your name forward. All we need is your forum username, what you’re interested in doing and a short paragraph or two on what you feel you could bring to the team - we don’t need anything too crazy!

The form will be open for the foreseeable future, there’s no specific end date for this to close - so feel free to fill in whenever you like 🙂.

Complete the Google Form

...and can I add...I would apply, but my good ladies email forces its way into all googledocs on this 'puter...so if you email me the form, I might be able to respond.
Possibly.
To think I was a teckie kid back in the eighties, with my ZX81.

Just to note the Google form does not record your email address in your response. If you’re logged into a Google account, Google forms will save your progress for you (it’s intended for longer forms like surveys) but that’s it - it doesn’t come to us:

All we see is the responses to the questions - forum username, confirmation you’re over 18, what you’ve checked that you’d be interested in and the text box at the bottom.

There’s no issue with filling in the form with your Google account logged out or completing it in an incognito window.

Out of curiosity @Craig, what would we consider a “reasonable amount of time” to dedicate to site duties?

I’ll admit I maybe haven’t been as active as I’d have liked at times over the last few months due to quite a busy personal life, but this site has given me so, so much over the last 8 (nearly 9!) years and I’ve absolutely loved being a part of this community. As much as we’ve definitely had our ups and downs over the years, I’ve found everyone’s friendship and support on TowersStreet absolutely invaluable across many years and through some periods of great change in my life, so I would very much like to give something back and help the team out in some capacity to ensure that the olive branch this site gave me is still extendable to others in the years to come. This is absolutely one of my favourite places on the internet, and I’d absolutely love to play a part in making it such a brilliant site!

I’d like to think the length of time I’ve been on here and my depth of posting history would make me at least somewhat qualified for a role on the team, but I do wonder if my lower activity level recently, as well as the fact that I don’t exactly have a whiter-than-white posting history in terms of “sticking to the site line” so to speak, would exclude me from being eligible.

Oh yes you do!
Probably whiter than whitey white mate, after a boil wash.
I don’t know… are posts like “mourners per hour”, as well as some of my more stubborn debates from years gone by, really the line people will want from a team member?

Oh, what the hell… I’ve expressed my interest and submitted a form response! This site is one of my favourite places on the internet, and I’d love to play a part in shaping it for future members!

I’ll secretly admit that from a personal standpoint, I’m personally quite proud of “mourners per hour”, the reception it received, and how people still seemingly remember it… although I do wonder if turning the death of our longest-reigning monarch into a throughput timing opportunity is really something the admins would want in the posting history of a team member. But hey, I’ll let @Craig and co decide that for me!

It's impossible to give a set number really, which is why I didn't specify one. Team positions are giving back to the community for no financial reward, so I don't think it's fair to put arbitrary numbers/targets in things.

The main thing is to ask yourself if you feel you can make a positive difference to the site with whatever time you have available. That's all we ask 🙂
