Favourite Pub?

Love this pub. Train to the pub, then thrash up the hill to Ipstones
Another upvote for the Black Lion at Consall. Canals, trains and cider, all good things. And chickens - last time I checked.

I'll skip the thrash up the hill though! There are much better ways to get to Ipstones. My parents offer a very reasonable taxi service.

The Mall Tavern, just by Notting Hill Gate tube.

Always has a beer list to die for, and the most incredible mac and cheese.

Also convenient to dip your toes in the other Princess Diana Memorial Water Feature, the one that isn't at Thorpe Park.

Train thrash up the hill thankfully, not walking. The time we went they served us alcohol and hot beef sandwiches to our seats on the train.

To add to my other post, the Sheffield Tap at Sheffield station is pretty good. Also enjoyed the Head of Steam at Huddersfield station on my sole visit there back in 2022.

...If there's any doubt, I like a station pub. :p

Plenty in Liverpool, most of my favourites being on or just off Dale Street.

The Ship and Mitre right at the top, a proper ale pub, first place I drunk Erdinger, ace pump and bottle selection. Lovely food as well.

The Excelsior again a lovely bar, Timothy Taylor on tap. Shows the football as well. Unfortunately for it its about 10 foot from the ship and mitre.

Further down you've got Thomas Rigbys and The Lady Of Mann that actually share a courtyard. Used to be a great sun trap before they put a cover over it.

Then round the corner you've got The Hole In The Wall and The Denbigh Castle. Added bonus for those two is the Spanish sandwich shop Castros that sits between them.

Over on the otherside of the city centre you've got The Swan Inn a old rock pub, used to be the place to go for a few before the Krazy House. And Kazimir Gardens which is more of a vibe and now covered but very al fresco. And The Bridewell as who doesn't want to drink in an old police station.

The top end of town features great venues like The Pen Factory, Liverpool Arts Bar, The Casa Bar, The Philharmonic Dining Rooms (complete with ornate men's toilets), and as you leave the city centre that way you've got Ye Cracke, The Grapes (the good one), Blackburne Arms, and Peter Kavanagh's.

Probably plenty I've missed really.

Don't really drink that much elsewhere so can't really say for places like Manchester or Chester anymore.

Though anytime I visit London as I'm always horribly early for getting that train home I'll always have a pint in the Euston Tap was great in 2024 6 of us having a few drinks together after we'd been to Wembley to see Liverpool win the league cup.

I like a station taproom too. Only visited the Sheffield Tap once, but really enjoyed it.

Seek out Manchester Victoria’s taproom if you’re ever near - charming little gaff.

Oh, I've done the Victoria Tap a few times. Really lovely space. Oxford Road Tap is pretty good as well, though I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for the OG at Manchester Piccadilly.

Yeah the Sheffield Taproom, and one in Manchester Victoria both lovely.

And the one in York Station as well, perfect when waiting for the train home after a day at Flamingo Land. Actually enjoyed The House of Trembling Madness just off The Shambles as well.

Pretty much agree with all of them. Though the Ship & Mitre, those toilets, god, they smell bad 😂

I do like Albert Schloss, just outside Liverpool Central station. Usually my first stop. My aim is to have a beer in hand by 12 noon. With the train due to arrive at 11:50 it should be easy, but have yet to succeed. Either the trains been late or it’s been busy. My best is 12:01, which was 4 minutes from train to beer.

Shenanigans, not far from Moorfields Station, is a great Irish Pub. I don’t bother with Head of Steam anymore, stupidly expensive.
