Fireworks 2025

I was wearing my t shirt whilst riding oblivion and couldn't feel any breeze I know you can't always feel the wind from the ground but it was very mild last night.
That’s some proper Geordie on a night out energy just wearing a t shirt in the current climate . mean I know it’s not cold cold but it’s still jumper weather surely…

I’d be interested to see if all 3 nights have fireworks that let out far too much smoke. Imagine if it was a couple of years ago and all the smoke mucked up the giant Emily Alton water projection

That’s always been my biggest criticism of Towers fireworks - the huge amount of smoke. I suspect it’s down to the fact that the firing sites are so visible from the viewing areas, and a massive body of cold water I’m sure doesn’t help… but their displays are always far, far smokier than most others I see.

I was barely fitting on nemesis and bivvy so took my hoodie off so it was easier to put the seatbelt in, gotta shed some pounds for the next season.

I'll be interested if the finale is better tonight, I doubt it because I don't think it was the weather.

Fuse, but electric. Shells have what’s called a “lift charge”, which is the explosive which launches it into the sky. This is lit with an electric charge, from a firing system that’s controlled from timecode to keep it in sync with the show.
I don’t miss the olden days of my community bonfire night event watching the sky for the glowing red hot metre long rocket stick coming back down like a spear.

I’m sure the bass “thump” of the charge launching the massive mortar fireworks rather than the rocket whoosh is something that has contributed to people complaining about firework noise a lot more nowadays because of how the sound travels and can be “felt”

Did they ever use match fuse for Alton Towers Fireworks in the beginning
I started going as a kid in the mid to late 90s, and they were all electronically fired back then. I definitely don’t remember anyone walking around lighting them by hand. Due to the scale of their displays, even back then, it would be impractical, unsafe, and impossible to fire them by hand due to how many cues the displays have.

Saturday fireworks where decent.

Basic review:

Fireworks - Good
Lighting - Very good
Music - terrible
Story - Mediocre.
Don't really think Fireworks needs a story as long as the Fireworks and Lighting are great. The music on the first night was pretty good

I would argue against this, I think last years performance was excellent, and the story really helped it wasn't just music there was an extra tension. I honestly think it was the best fireworks I have seen (even compared to disney).

One of the most memorable Fireworks I remember was 2017 they had this audio clip of 2 people arguing which is better Corkscrew or Black Hole

If the fireworks where bad you would say a fireworks show doesn’t need fireworks if it defended Towers wouldn’t you….

I was there tonight- short review.
The Manchester accent of the Alton Intelligence had us howling. Maybe they were trying to capitalise on the popularity of Oasis Live this year? 😂 Alton Intelligence sponsored by Andy Burnham Manchester metro mayor?
The story- poor, the music- awful, the fireworks brilliant! The finale had some great quality fireworks - but even the ITHOTMK mix wasn’t great.
Phalanx expo was definitely a better put together show- but did think it would be hard to top the quality of that show- the best that I’ve experienced.
The crowd management has definitely improved in recent years. They had temp traffic lights out of Alton Towers and were leading those from the fields onto the side road alongside the main Towers driveway. There were loads of staff as well supervising the exit of people - some I questioned even why they were there! But reassuring to see so many staff on hand- in comparison to past years when it felt a bit chaotic.
Overall- enjoyable but not as good as Phalanx Expo. Even just the overall atmosphere of that was incredible.
