These stats are taken directly from Gerstlauer's website:

So although the capacity of such rides can be quite dire, if the larger model is run properly and efficiently then one would easily cope with the amount of guests at Alton Towers. And if positioned next to Sonic Spinball then it would really help to ease the queues and also bring a bit more life to the area. They may also reopen the noodles if the area becomes busier with a new attraction.

Which is why I suggested a Topple Tower as it looks impressive but isn't too intense to scare younger riders. I've read about Dollywood's case with Timber Terror and it's a shame that one of the best examples ended in such a bad way. However, most other examples run okay. As for high amounts of theming, that's what Towers are good at doing. Just look at Ripsaw for a flat ride.

    :)

The Sky Roller looks absolutely insane and hilarious and just amazing. I need to ride one now.

I think what alton needs for a flat ride is a ride similar to bling which was at PBB because whilst it was there it permanently had a queue which took the stress off the main rides now without it you can already see a difference in queue times for the major rides.

Besides its a very fun ride and can take a large amount of people per ride which would be ideal for this purpose. I would suggest putting something like this to replace submission because submission is as painful as "Japanese bamboo torture".

 You've been subjected to Japanese Bamboo torture?

    :p

The only problem with Bling is that it's huge and I doubt Alton could fit one in at their park. Add to that the fairground styling and it becomes a bit of a problem. However, the Mondial Top Scan or even the Zamperla Shooker are smaller rides that offer a similar experience. Either of those would be more appropriate for Alton Towers and the Top Scan is also a favourite amongst users on here, so I've no doubt that one could fit well in X-Sector as a replacement for Submission.

    :)

I quoted Japanese bamboo torture from what blaze put on earlier in the topic; Rides you DON'T like Why? How could it be improved? :p

A smaller version would be ideal although it would need to keep its capacity

Does anyone know of any companies that produce decent flat rides that we haven't yet discussed? I can't really think of any that make rides that would be suitable for a park like Alton Towers.

Ugh, KMG Tango's, awful machines lol. ;)

Anything by Mondial gets a thumbs up from me though (Fanboi)! Those Gerst Sky Rollers do look great, if they could modify it so that cars could carry two people it'd be the icing on the cake, pretty much spot on for Alton I reckon.

Maybe the Sky Fly version would look the more impressive model over the Sky Roller though?

There's a Huss Frisbee ride at West Midlands Safari Park, so there is actually one in the UK.

There's not many thrilling flat rides when you think about it, a magic carpet ride would be fantastic as would be a fun ride, as would the Skyroller, a skyroller is currently rumored for Thorpe Park though ???

the chance wipeout's I've ridden before pack a punch with a lot of Airtime, something which Alton lacks majorly...None of the coasters minus Rita, and a small bit of 13 have any real Air Time unfortunately.

A Screaming Swing and Afterburner would work put in the right location, given you can hide it well enough.

Let's not forget Pendulus at Pleasure Island. There's a Huss Frisbee on the UK fair circuit too I believe plus a copy made by a manufacturer who's name escapes me.

I've often wondered how spin ride manufacturers get away with such blatant copies of each other's rides. Can they not take out patents on such things? There must be about 5 or 6 manufacturers offering Top Spins and even more selling frisbee style rides. If I was Huss, I'd be pretty miffed.

Ah thanks for letting us know about the existing Frisbee rides. I didn't know there were so many in the UK. I'll try and check out the West Midlands Safari Park one as I've never been there before. :)

I've often wondered if a flying carpet ride could be rethemed to some sort of tomb/grave being dug-up to allow it to fit in with Gloomy Wood and Duel. It could have a really tongue-in-cheek name like Grave Digger or something. It could even be linked to the zombies in Duel as some foolish scientist tries to continue on with Dr Nicholas Roydoon's, only to unleash more evil into Gloomy Wood. The supports of the ride could look like gravestones and the floor could look like a muddy pit (where the coffin that you're riding was supposed to have come from). :p

It would be typical if Thorpe got a Skyroller and Alton's flat ride line-up remained the same though. :/

They probably just adjust one minor element of it to get around the patent - maybe just a mechanical element or something else noticeable enough to bypass it.

1001 nights was HUGE though, sticking above the treeline. I imagine that is why it went as I remember it being rather popular.

The little magic carpets, like Quantum at TP are really quite crap in comparison. I'd say not worth bothering with one and less it can be a proper full size one, which at Alton clearly it can't.

Well there's nothing to stop them from getting a new model, just because they used to have one. Especially if it were to be themed differently and be in a different part of the park to where the original ones used to be. Also, what's to stop Alton from having Quantum? Whenever we've been to Thorpe there has been nobody on it. It seems a shame for it to just sit there and rarely see any guests.

Perhaps Alton Towers could trade Quantum for Submission and have Quantum placed in Gloomy Wood (rethemed, of course) whilst they buy a new white knuckle flat ride for X-Sector? :p

I don't think a Flying Carpet would fit in with the rules of today. For some reason AT could get away with the odd ride that blatantly flouted height restrictions 20 years back - Thunderlooper and 1001 Nights being two examples. I don't think the same would be the case today, things seem to have gotten more strict.

They wouldn't have to buy one the size of the original carpet rides and Quantum easily fits withing their height restrictions.

It has to be this, without a doubt. Love the people in the seat in front of the one you're looking at failing miserably at going upside down.
