General Hotel Discussion

Just wanted to add about the new lunch menu at the Atrium/SGR/Dragon Bar in the Alton Towers Hotel.

Definite improvement in the selection of dishes. Frankly it is preferable to the vast majority of the food available on park at lunchtime. I believe the hotels had a new head chef at some point in recent months. Hopefully this will pay off long term!

Back in the days of the Ripsaw pond, the pH checks were done about 50% of the time. You'd often just write in the diary with a pH figure in the correct range. Very similar to the Nemesis lift hill walk on a rainy day - CCTV confirms the lift is still there, so no need to walk it.

I am aware this post will make uncomfortable reading for Towers Management, especially giving the events of 2015. But this is how it was "back in the days". Corners cut left right & centre.

Reading the quick questions thread about the hotels; it's very telling that all people have to say about the rooms in the hotels is "fine". It should be spectacular and immersive and worth the premium price beyond just being close to the park and I've just realised I'm beating a dead horse
 
The problem is a standard room in ATH is worse than a standard Travelodge/premier Inn room (the newer hotels, not those god awful service station ones), yeah I’m sure in 1996 they were amazing, but 20+ years later and not much has changed.

The moon rooms are nice and so are the artic ones, but they’ve had budget cuts since the original ones.

But yes you are very much paying for the location and brand than anything else.

I don't even rate those particularly highly. I mean yeh, they're good - much better than the old rooms. But better than a new Travelodge room? Well, really you're just getting a nice 'moon' theme instead of a nice 'corporate' theme - the quality and experience of both is completely comparable.
 
The problem with the hotels now is you get no perks for staying in them.

You no longer get:
  • Free gifts
  • Kids Club
  • In room vouchers
  • Pool / Waterpark entry
  • ERT cut to 30mins and is available for MAP holders as well
I could go and sit in the hotel bars for a drink and have the same amount of perks as if I was staying there.

I agree, it used to feel somewhat special staying at the hotels, with fun little features like hidden drawers and chocolate. Now they are just another bog standard hotel.

I don’t rate the new rooms very much either, they just appear to be the usual half-effort vinyl approach.
